What is the opportunity?

We are looking for an EMEA Indirect Tax Compliance Associate or Analyst to join the growing EMEA Tax team. This is an opportunity to assist with laying robust foundations for the Indirect Tax function with the aim of supporting a growing business.

You would work within the Tax Team of 7 people to provide complete, accurate and timely processing of Indirect and Operational Tax processes, ensuring compliance with internal guidelines and procedures as well as external requirements.

What will you be doing?

Indirect Tax Compliance

  • Prepare periodic EMEA VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
  • Prepare annual EMEA VAT returns including the annual adjustment for the UK return.
  • Perform transactional data reviews for Sales & Purchase data to ensure accurate VAT treatment.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies between accounting data and draft VAT returns.
  • Identify and help correct recurring VAT errors to improve overall accuracy.
  • Assist with VAT Group compliance, including reviewing intra-group transactions and consolidation returns.
  • Perform reconciliations of VAT control accounts to the general ledger.
  • VAT review of Debtor Invoices and approval within the system.
  • Maintain VAT reporting calendar, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Support VAT audit queries, partial exemption method reviews, input tax recovery calculations and implement any corrective actions as needed.

Operational Taxes compliance

  • Assist with preparation of UK FATCA/CRS returns for internal review and final sign-off by HoT.
  • Preparation of quarterly HO reports for internal review and final sign-off by HoT.
  • Assist with preparation of other EMEA FATCA/CRS reporting as required.
  • Assist with preparation of UK Bank and Building Society Interest (BBSI) as required.

Regulatory, Process and Technology

  • Analysis and support with the identification and implementation of tax legislation changes that impacts Mizuho EMEA.
  • Support the business with indirect tax queries and prepare training packs as required in collaboration with the VAT Lead.
  • Maintain tax compliance documentation including policies & procedures for Indirect and Operational taxes.
  • Contribute to Indirect and Operational taxes process improvements and ongoing automation/systems upgrade projects.
  • Be a collaborative team member and assist others within the tax team, as necessary.

What do you need to succeed?

Essential

  • 3+ years in an Indirect Tax focussed role, preferably in-house
  • Working or willing to work towards a relevant professional qualification – ATT, AAT, ACCA, ACA, CTA
  • Experience of working unsupervised on day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of financial and accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and proactively solve problems through to resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality output in a fast paced rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong excel skills (intermediate to advanced) with the ability to analyse and manipulate data.
  • Resilient, ensuring that non-standard approaches are challenged.
  • Stakeholder focussed, ensuring that outputs meet stakeholder requirements in accuracy and timeliness and that issues are raised early.
  • Team focussed, a collaborator and able to work with the wider Finance team in producing the best outcomes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ensure adherence to defined processes and work instructions.

Desirable

  • Familiarity & knowledge of partial exemption special methods is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Operational taxes – FATCA/CRS, BBSI, etc.
  • Prior experience of working in Financial Services organisation would be an advantage.
