Director of Communications

Role: Deputy Director of External Affairs

Contract: 9-month FTC

Salary: £70'000 - £80'000

Start: ASAP

The main purpose of the role is to

• To provide leadership of the organisation's External Affairs strategy to ensure the needs of autistic children and their families are high on the political and media agenda.

• To play an active and externally-facing role in policy-influencing, representing the organisation in coalitions with relevant government departments and among parliamentarians.

• To increase the profile of the organisation through a practical and assertive communications strategy.

• To advise the Board and ELT on strategic developments based on expert knowledge of the external environment.

• To recruit, lead, motivate and develop the Communications, Policy and Campaigns, Research and Marketing teams to effectively implement operational plans.

• To deputise for the Director of External Affairs and Development when required.

We are looking for candidates who have a strong advocacy background and have helped steer policy and communications, particularly around disability and health.
