Description
Associate

The Fraud Internal Surveillance (FIS) Alerting team, a part of the Fraud Department's unit under the Cyber, Data, Risk, and Resilience division, plays a critical role in protecting the Firm and clients from internal fraud. The FIS Alerting team supports this mission by delivering timely, accurate, and defensible fraud alert reviews that align with the right people, tools, and processes to mitigate insider threats.

We are seeking a detail-driven, decisive, and innovative Internal Fraud Alerting Associate with strong investigative instincts and a passion for protecting Firm integrity. This role sits within the Internal Fraud space and involves holistic reviews of employee behavior, transactional activity, and system usage to identify and escalate suspicious activity. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of analytic rigor, sound judgment, and proactive mindset to help strengthen our detection and response program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough reviews of internal fraud alerts by analyzing transactional data, user behavior, and system access logs to detect potential account abuse or malicious activity.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and audit-defensible notations that outline findings, escalation decisions, red flags, and rationale-demonstrating a holistic understanding of the situation under review.
  • Apply investigative techniques to uncover patterns, connections between employees/accounts, or collusive behavior that could indicate organized internal fraud.
  • Investigate and escalate suspected internal fraud incidents, including misuse of client accounts, transactional or account irregularities, data manipulation, or unauthorized system misuse, ensuring timely and well-documented responses.
  • Proactively contribute to team discussions by identifying emerging trends, process inefficiencies, or gaps in current alerting logic and recommending improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal partners across Compliance, Legal, HR, Cybersecurity, Investigations, and Strategy to deliver a coordinated and consistent fraud response.
  • Maintain high quality and productivity standards, ensuring cases are worked within SLA and documented in real-time, with attention to investigative depth and data integrity.
  • Support continuous enhancement of alert logic and participate in the transition to more automated and AI-assisted alerting capabilities.

What We're Looking For

  • Investigative Mindset - You approach alerts like a puzzle, asking the right questions and using critical thinking to identify root causes.
  • Strong Notation Skills - You excel in translating complex data and findings into written documentation that is clear, defensible, and decision-driven.
  • Holistic Reviewer - You can zoom out to consider the broader picture: account history, behavioral red flags, transaction timing, and intent.
  • Decisive and Accountable - You don't hesitate to make calls based on available information and stand behind your reasoning.
  • Collaborative and Proactive - You work well in a team environment, communicate effectively, and contribute to shared goals while bringing ideas to the table.
  • Detail-Oriented - You consistently notice anomalies and ensure all required documentation and follow-through is handled precisely.
  • Process-Minded - You look for ways to streamline workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and incorporate technology to enhance efficiency.
  • Future-Facing - You are curious and open to emerging tools, such as AI and advanced analytics, that can improve fraud detection and reduce manual review. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fraud investigations, internal audit, surveillance, or related role within a financial institution.
  • Background in banking or brokerage operations is highly preferred.
  • Exposure to or interest in AI, automation, or data analytics tools used to detect fraud or unusual activity.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on concise documentation and analytical reasoning.
  • Knowledge or experience reviewing internal employee behavior and understanding red flags associated with internal fraud and misconduct.
  • Familiarity with regulatory considerations and internal control or risk frameworks.
  • Comfortable work independently in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment with strict quality and SLA expectations.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize work in a dynamic environment.

Desired Attributes

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.
  • Passion for internal fraud detection and risk mitigation.
  • Exposure to link analysis, investigative tools, or data visualization platforms is a plus

Be the first line of defense. Investigate smarter. Protect what matters.

Apply now to join a forward-thinking, collaborative team on the frontlines of internal fraud detection.
