Role: Management Accountant
Salary: up to £45,000 depending on experience
Location: Northampton
Working Hours: 08:00 – 16:30 OR 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, office-based
The Accountancy & Finance Division at The ONE Group is pleased to be working with an established and forward-thing business based in Northampton in the support of an experienced Management Accountant to cover Maternity Leave. This is a great opportunity for a detail-focused and proactive Management Accountant to join a busy finance team. This role will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of core accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of finance operations across reporting, reconciliations, payroll, VAT, and fixed assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile balance sheet control accounts and investigate any discrepancies promptly
- Prepare and submit periodic VAT returns, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance
- Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger and post payroll-related entries
- Support the timely and accurate processing of payroll
- Provide backup support for payroll to ensure continuity when needed
- Post journals accurately within the accounting system, ensuring correct coding and compliance with internal policies
- Reconcile company credit card transactions against bank statements and ensure expenses are recorded correctly
- Produce daily turnover reports with accurate and up-to-date financial information
- Maintain the fixed asset register, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation
- Support fleet-related finance administration and ensure records and associated costs are accurately tracked
- Review and clear suspense accounts, resolving outstanding items in a timely manner
Skills & Experience Required
- AAT qualification or equivalent
- Experience with VAT returns and payroll reconciliations
- Strong understanding of ERP systems
- Good Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Analytical and problem-solving approach
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
