The Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service is an evolving service that has been developed as part of the wider urgent care pathway. The development of these services will seek to ensure that we are better meeting the needs of our service users and carers by providing 24/7 open access, and a greater range of responsive and flexible service.
The Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service is a collaborative service working together with VCSE partners and offers an all age all need service. The service triages mental health crisis calls and referrals (including warm transfers from EMAS, 111, and police), providing tele-coaching psychologically informed interventions, support, guidance and signposting.
In April 2024, NHS 111 press 2 for Mental Health was added into the service provision, resulting in all calls made to 111 requiring a MH response, being directed to the service.
In October 2024, DHcFT went into partnership EMAS to deliver their contract of a Mental Health Response Vehicle (MHRV). The MHRV is crewed with an EMAS paramedic and mental health clinician from the helpline and is predominantly dispatched via the Emergency Operations Centre and Mental Health Clinical Assessment Team (CAT) to mental health incidents between 4pm - 12am, seven days a week.
Please note that these posts are currently based at Ripley Town Hall with a view to being moved to a Derby City location (location and timeframe yet to be confirmed).
