We are now recruiting for the exciting role of

The Pipework Component Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of high-integrity pipework components and systems for nuclear facilities. This includes leading the design of both nuclear and conventional pipework systems across the Rolls-Royce SMR power station, ensuring full compliance with stringent safety, quality, and regulatory standards. (This is not a Pipestress, Pipe Routing Integration or CAD role, however prior experience in these areas will be beneficial for effective collaboration with the respective teams.)
Key role responsibilities:
- Design pipework components in accordance with nuclear standards such as ASME B31.1, RCC-M, EN 13480, ASME III NB, NCD, PED and relevant ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation) requirements.
- Balancing complex and often conflicting requirements to deliver integrated technical solutions that meet maturity, programme, and governance expectations.
- Produce design substantiation reports, technical specifications, and design justifications.
- Review detailed drawings, isometrics, and general arrangements in line with applicable design codes.
- Use optioneering and systems engineering techniques to deliver design solutions against product requirements.
Selection criteria:
- Relevant product development experience and capability:
The candidate shall have the ability to apply both practical experience and strong theoretical knowledge to develop robust, safety-critical piping solutions.
- Programme development & delivery
The candidate shall demonstrate strong attention to technical detail, along with the ability to evaluate design maturity in relation to project risks and evolving requirements.
- Programme development & delivery
The candidate shall have the ability to interpret and be required to manage high levels of ambiguity within the programme and work closely with the Pipework Manager to provide control, direction and support.
We are looking for a collaborative team player that is proactive, positive attitude, prepared to support any aspect of the business when required, display an appropriate questioning attitude and excel in periods of uncertainty within a learning culture.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
The role requires the candidate to communicate and build relationships with a large variety of stakeholders across the business and externally.
