Grade UE05: £29,179 to £33,482 per annum, pro-rata if part time

College of Science and Engineering / School of Biological Sciences / Institute of Ecology and Evolution

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed term: 30 months

The Reece Lab ( https://thereecelab.com/ ) at the Institute of Ecology and Evolution are recruiting a Research Technician to support a new, exciting NERC-funded project investigating how daily rhythms shape vector-parasite interactions and malaria parasite evolution.

The Opportunity

The postholder will assist with laboratory experiments investigating host-vector-parasite interactions in Edinburgh, and assist with the organisation and implementation of wild mosquito trapping and semi-field experiments investigating mosquito behaviour in Ghana. The postholder will be responsible for conducting laboratory analyses of collected samples, and will also contribute to broader research activities within the lab, including maintenance of the mosquito colonies.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an integral and flexible member of a multi-disciplinary research team.

Your Skills And Attributes For Success

  • Interest in vector biology, parasitology and/or circadian rhythms.
  • Experience of working in a research laboratory and with standard laboratory protocols.
  • Experience of conducting fieldwork.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.
