Location: Hybrid – Work from home and office visits as and when required (London Campus)

Target Start Date: End of July 2025

Senior Network and Firewall Engineer (T1) – Network Services

Team Summary

This is a Network Infrastructure support role within the IT Operations function at Deloitte. Reporting to the Network & Security Operations Manager and working closely with other internal ITS teams, the Network support engineer will provide internal technical consultancy and oversight for all UK network services outsourced to a network Service Provider (NSP – currently British Telecom). This role demands a strong technical background, coupled with a holistic ITIL Service based mentality and experience managing Service Providers. The role demands the ability to balance operational stability against the responsiveness to business requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Manage workloads, which will involve setting prioritises and delegating activities to team members
  • As a senior team member, you will act as mentor to inexperienced team members
  • Accountable for end-to-end administration of Network, F5 and Forescout technologies
  • Responsible to manage end to end process of firewall management/administration
  • Configuring and troubleshooting issues related to Cisco switches (Nexus) and routers (ASR/ISR)
  • Configuring and maintaining F5 load balancers and troubleshooting F5 related issues
  • Work closely with technology services teams and put-up action plan for firewall OS /patch upgrades, rebuild etc.
  • Service request fulfillment for firewall global policy and other security extension changes (VPN, IPS, URL Filtering, Application Control, etc.)
  • Providing technical network infrastructure assistance and guidance to business relationship managers, project managers, infrastructure managers and other technical and non-technical staff
  • Work with the NSP to assess and interpret high-level network related requirements and provide the most appropriate solution design to meet business benefits and preferable outcome for the cost and effectiveness of ongoing usage
  • Evaluating detailed solution design instructions and assessing the quality of the produced solution. Can clearly articulate solution dependencies beyond the technology itself and ensure that a cohesive business solution will result.
  • Act as a technical interface and liaison with internal technical staff and 3rd parties who will implement technologies not supported by the NSP
  • Raising simple and complex service requests with the NSP using appropriate method
  • Raising Request for Change records (RFCs)
  • Technical governance and approval of change requests, ensuring RFCs are within technical standards and underpin a cohesive support framework
  • Providing guidance and support to the Infrastructure Operations Centre (IOC) and NSP for major incidents, including attendance on emergency Change Approval Board (CAB) meetings
  • Working with Problem Management team and NSP to identify problems and assist in treatment plans, raising RFCs with NSP where appropriate
  • Working with Deloitte and NSP Capacity teams to forecast infrastructure usage requirements and engage with Network service owner and NSP to adjust capacity of services as necessary
  • Quantifying areas of improvement for key processes and services with Service Provider
  • Attend NSP Service Review meetings and provide feedback on Service and key metrics against contractual framework
  • Working with Service Manager on continuous service improvement plans, engaging internal IT teams and NSP to implement required improvements
  • Ability to assess statement of works from NSP and ensure they are in line with expectations and that the assumptions made by the NSP are valid


Must Have

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification
  • Strong experience in designing, transitioning, and operating Cisco LAN technologies and routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP) in an enterprise environment (national and global)
  • Good knowledge of Palo Alto and Checkpoint firewalls
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN and network protocols
  • Advanced level skill in firewall policy management
  • Planning for firewall OS and management upgradation
  • Experience in F5 Load balancing (LTM and GTM)
  • Strong experience managing IP networks and supporting infrastructure (DHCP, DNS)
  • Knowledge of network architecture and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP/S)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Cisco ACI infrastructure
  • IPSEC VPN troubleshooting
  • Proven Service Management (ITIL) experience, specifically incident, problem and change
  • management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on translating technically complex issues into simple, easy to understand concepts
  • Willingness to learn additional technologies, not focused on a single technology/application
  • Be able to collaborate with clients, identify engagement, follow-on opportunities, and have a strong desire to excel
  • Ability to work in virtual teams, offering support to team members remotely
  • Demonstratable experience of coaching others to deliver quality work
