Job Overview

Come and make a difference as a Therapy Support Worker and work with passionate colleagues in the Emergency and Medical Therapy team, on a permanent basis.  

This role is suitable for individuals who have experience in healthcare or working with the public, and who would like to develop their career in an acute hospital environment.

It's a rewarding role, where you will be working alongside members of the team to provide both physiotherapy and occupational therapy for patients on a number of medical wards including Respiratory, Cardiology, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology.

You will also support the 'front door' team covering the Emergency Department, Medical Assessment Unit and Short Stay ward when needed.

You will also have a number of non-clinical/ administrative tasks to support the team and wider Therapies Department.

The department has a positive approach to continuing professional development and there is an active in-service training programme.  

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

• The main part of this post is to assist the occupational therapists and physiotherapists in assessing and treating patients.
• To have responsibility for managing a delegated caseload of medical patients with supervision, providing support and treatment to patients.
• To work flexibly to support the whole Medical Therapy team, working closely with both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, working with patients on the Respiratory, Cardiac, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Medical Short Stay ward.
• The remainder of the time would be spent performing housekeeping, maintenance, clerical and administration duties to comply with the needs and priorities of the departments concerned.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

• Evidence of training to meet the competencies specified for this post
  
  

Desirable criteria

• Diploma/Degree in relevant subject or relevant qualification, eg, NVQ, BTEC
  
  

Knowledge and Experience

• Experience of working with the public
• Knowledge of hospital work/anatomy/physiology
• Experience working as a physiotherapy assistant / working with orthopaedic patients in a healthcare setting.
• An understanding of patient confidentiality and the practices involved

• To be able to maintain concentration and attention throughout the day where situations may sometimes be unpredictable.
• To be exposed to unpleasant working conditions frequently, e.g. bodily fluids including sputum, vomit, urine and exposure to verbal and physical aggression.
