Depop is looking for an experienced Web Engineer to join us permanently. Within this role, you’ll be working in the Demand product pillar, with the mission of attracting and activating users arriving on Depop, by crafting seamless buying experiences.
As a member of this multi-functional space, you will collaborate with product, design and other engineers to build a smooth, quick, and trustworthy journey for our users, from the moment they land on the website.
You’ll be responsible for the entire lifecycle of small/medium projects of moderate complexity in both our web app and web APIs. You’ll need to be comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity, proactively pulling in people at the right time. Your work will be pivotal in ensuring we facilitate excellent interactions between Depop and our customers on the platform.
Responsibilities
As a Web Engineer within this team, you can expect to:
- Work closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Product Designers, and various Engineers to understand problems and to craft solutions
- Produce high-quality code that is well-structured and simple to understand that will be used by 1M+ active daily users
- Take ownership of product development, from feature discovery, to the breakdown of work, and its implementation
- End-to-end application support, including production incident management
- Adopt agile methodologies and user-centred thinking
- Engage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as blameless post-mortems, architecture reviews, and engineering guild sessions
- Collaborate daily with fellow engineers in the multi-functional environment to address problems and write code
- Mentor and coach your colleagues
Qualifications
- Proven JavaScript skills, including concepts like asynchronous programming, promises, closures, types, and ES6
- HTML/CSS experience, including concepts like layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility
- Experience in TypeScript, React and Node.js
- Building automated tests using Javascript test frameworks
- Experience consuming RESTful API services
- Comfortable in using Git
- Experience working collaboratively as part of an agile team in a product-focused business
Nice To Haves
- Experience deploying web applications at scale
- Experience writing RESTful API services, either in Javascript or TypeScript
- Experience of CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Delivery) and adopting DevOps with maintaining pipelines using Jenkins
