Adult Care Tutor

Location: Greenwich – Role is for face-to-face teaching, no online delivery

Type of Contract: Fixed Term Contract – 24 weeks with the possibility of extension OR zero hours

Working Hours: Three days a week

Start Date: January 2025

Salary: £25 per hour + 12.07 % holiday pay

Job purpose


Oxford International runs courses for international students to complete Adult Health Care qualifications at level 2 and 3.


The main purpose of this job is to fulfil the role of Adult Care Tutor for Oxford International Pathways Centre.


Tutors deliver lessons that prepare students fully for careers as Adult Health Care practitioners. The lessons adopt an interactive, student-centred approach that makes full use of the latest technology in order to provide students with a varied, lively and purposeful experience.


Main duties and responsibilities


To be responsible for teaching, marking and academic development of the student body.


Other duties and responsibilities


  • Deliver academic subject specific modules to international students from a range of linguistic, educational and cultural backgrounds at level 3
  • Remain sensitive to the expectations of different nationalities whilst encouraging an open and questioning approach to learning that leads students to become independent learners
  • 18 hours per week contact time
  • Provide academic support for students, as appropriate, through consultations and tutorials, demonstrating a willingness to offer extra advice outside normal class hours
  • Develop and maintain an encouraging classroom environment in which accepted rules of behaviour are consistently applied
  • Select, prepare and use teaching and learning materials appropriate for international students and contribute relevant materials to the to the teachers’ shared resource drive
  • Assess students throughout their modules, regularly creating, providing and marking both formative and summative evaluations
  • Provide detailed oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders, for example, the Academic Director, the Student Support Manager, and College Director, as required
  • Carry out administrative and record-keeping tasks associated with teaching and assessment (e.g., accurate attendance records, student progress reports, test invigilation)
  • Using the course descriptor write a scheme of work, assessments and marking criteria to specified deadlines
  • Populate the VLE with relevant materials for students to access

Statutory Requirements


  • Eligibility to live and work in in the UK
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check or overseas equivalent
  • DBS Update Service Membership


Qualifications


  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care at a minimum
  • Qualified to PTLLS/DTLLS/Cert Ed/ PGCE (Essential) (or willing to work towards a teaching qualification
  • Evidence of commitment to professional development
  • Recognised Adult Education qualification and/or Recognised Assessor qualification (for example CAVA)
  • Willingness to work towards and gain a TAQA assessing qualification of Level 3, if not already qualified
  • IQA would be a benefit


Experience and Knowledge


  • Occupational experience with a sound understanding of the Care Act and Care Quality Commission requirements.
  • Experience of providing training
  • Ability to work within a closely knit, collaborative team of tutors
  • Experience assessing students written work submitted to their e-portfolio.

  • Ability to teach and supervise students’ projects, and coursework
  • A flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to lead, work as part of a team, and take on and accept responsibility
  • An ability to contribute to existing knowledge the subject field

  • Excellent communication skills, oral & written.
  • Commitment to the development of OIPC
  • Understanding of the adult care education environment
  • High level of IT skills
