At Outwood Grange Academies Trust we are a family of schools that strive to raise standards and transform lives. Outwood Academy Carlton is excited to offer this opportunity to work as an Advanced Teaching Assistant. The successful applicant will provide classroom support and out of class support to our amazing children, timetabled and planned by our inclusion department. You will be empowered with the knowledge to support the learning of our well rounded children. We are looking for an individual who has high aspirations for children, committed and passionate about learning; who has the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our children and share our goal of ‘Students First’.
The role of an Advanced Teaching Assistant across our Academy is to promote the learning and welfare of children by providing practical and learning support to children, including those with Education Health Care Plans, under the direction of the class teacher SENDCo or the extended inclusion team. Outwood Grange Academies Trust provides a high-quality learning and cultural environment that inspires and motivates children. Whether you are ambitious for progression, or determined to be an outstanding member of our support team, Outwood Academy Carlton is the place for you.
We would welcome applications from individuals with the drive, energy and creativity to develop and inspire students’ learning whilst contributing to an atmosphere of respect, recognition, optimism, celebration and mutual support within our Academy. Promoting equality within and valuing the diversity of the Academy community is essential to our ethos.
Outwood Academy Carlton is an Ofsted Good rated, 11 - 16 academy based in the friendly, attractive village of Carlton in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2016.
In October 2024, Ofsted noted that “students are taught to be ‘good human beings’ as part of the ethos at Outwood Academy Carlton” and that they “have a strong moral code and behave well in and outside of lessons”, including contributing to the wider community. Ofsted also noted that “leaders are determined that all students should succeed and be well prepared for life through a curriculum that develops their knowledge, skills and character”. Furthermore, Ofsted acknowledges that students who regularly attend school make strong progress as a result of the school’s rapid improvement.
We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential.
With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.
We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, in addition to being an IQM Centre of Excellence, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also delighted to have been awarded the United Against Bullying Bronze Award from the Anti-Bullying Alliance of the National Children’s Bureau which demonstrates our commitment to stopping bullying and improving the wellbeing of our students. We are also very proud to have been awarded Bronze Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.
We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.
Outwood Academy Carlton is situated in North East Barnsley and is easily accessible from South and West Yorkshire, with Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Pontefract all within commuting distance. We are just 5 miles from the M1.
If you are considering this role, the chances are that you already have a passion for supporting children during their time in school and we would welcome the opportunity for an informal conversation, or for you to come and see our warm, inclusive setting, please contact Amanda Bate - SENCO by email to
[email protected] , who would be pleased to tell you more, and we would be delighted to welcome you on a visit if you would like to see us in person.
If you share our vision, then join our family.
