What To Expect
This is a fascinating opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our Advanced Battery Materials Laboratory Team based in Lyons Park. The objective of the laboratory is to analyse and support the understanding of battery performance and degradation, contextualising this within the parameters set by the driving and usage environment.
Specifically, the Advanced Battery Materials Laboratory Team delivers productive and safe workflow for customers including Battery Test facilities, Cell Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing, delivering high-quality materials and chemical characterisation data.
As the Analytical Chemist, you will support the operation of the test team by leading the delivery of chemical analysis, from receipt of sample to delivery of the report to the customer.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
- Lead analysis and develop techniques on GC-MS, HPLC-MS, ICP-OES and other chemical methods
- Co-ordinate and control test activities having a full understanding of customers’ needs and priorities to ensure effective use of the facility
- Be a point of contact for test activities and support investigations into battery design and development, warranty & research investigations
- Responsible for the operation, methodology, functionality and calibration of the above instruments, as well as specifying and commissioning new equipment
- Maintain safe working practices, carry out COSHH and risk assessments as well as other safety-related activities for any laboratory task
What You’ll Need
- Technical expertise in Chromatography (GC, HPLC) and significant experience in relevant test facility operation
- Experience in Spectrometry (eg ICP-OES) and other analysis techniques such as NMR, AES, Ion Chromatography
- Proven experience delivering analysis in a Materials Laboratory Environment, with knowledge of analysis technology and facility requirements
- Experience in sample preparation (including salt extraction)
- Understanding of specification, formulation and degradation of Electrolytes
