Sepura is looking for a passionate embedded platform software engineer to join their Software team and contribute to the development and enhancement of their market leading critical communication devices and accessories. The ideal candidate will have some experience of working on the Android AOSP, android framework/service alterations, and of the Android development toolchain. Some experience of developing Android Apps could be useful, but this is not an Android App developer role.
To back up your Android AOSP skills, general embedded realtime development experience is useful, such as debugging complex, difficult to reproduce issues, particularly involving interactions with hardware devices.
Your Role
The Android Platform Software Engineer will develop and support our radio software running on our Android based radio products. You will be responsible for development, integration, debugging and testing activities.
Your Day To Day
There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business.
Activities You Will Be Responsible For Include
- Working in a SCRUM team to deliver the team goals.
- Embedded SW development for new features.
- Debugging real-time issues and bug fixing.
- Writing unit tests and integration tests.
- Participating in code reviews and document reviews.
- Interfacing with the wider organisation including hardware/electronics team, factory test team, product test and integration team.
- Participation in SCRUM ceremonies.

- Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline
Experience and Skills
- Embedded real-time software development experience on Android AOSP, using C++/Java
- Good debugging skills. Enjoys investigating and solving challenging real-time platform issues.
- Experience with development tools for debugging, profiling, code coverage, memory leak detection etc.
- Experience with real-time, multi-processor, multi-threaded, event-driven software.
- Experience of using configuration management and fault tracking tools.
- Innovative with proven ability to generate new ideas and approaches to problems.
- Tenacity to probe issues to understand their root causes.
- Good analytical, numerical, written and verbal communications skills.
- Able to apply initiative when required and will take ownership for the achievement of their own activities.
- Ability to communicate with the wider engineering organisation.
Nice to have:
Experience And Skills
- Experience of Linux kernel and system programming.
- Experience working in small RTOS and Microcontrollers
- Familiarity with working with a hardware development team (interpretation of schematics and practical knowledge of debugging using logic analysers and oscilloscopes).
