About The Role

This is a great opportunity to join a world-leading organisation, and gain software development experience working as part of a team in our exciting Tree of Life programme. As an Apprentice Software Developer this role will be ideal if you have a keen interest in making the first step towards developing a career in Software Development.

You Will Be Responsible For

  • Supporting the activities of the Tree of Life Enabling Platforms team, developing software to support the work of our scientists
  • Working closely with varied teams in the programme to support and assist them in the resolution of service requests in a timely manner

About You

You'll be keen and motivated to learn the latest software development skills, both on the job and as part of your course. You'll be happy working as part of a team and playing a full part in team life.

About The Apprenticeship

You will work towards achieving your Level 6 Digitech apprenticeship (4 years) through our provider, Multiverse. This consists of a Level 4 Software Engineering course (18 months), followed by a Level 5-6 Advanced Software Engineering course (24 months). One day per week is allocated to learning, with the rest of the time spent "on the job". Essential Skills

  • Level 2 English and Maths, 112 UCAS points with at least Grade B in a STEM A-level (or equivalent)
  • No previous experience necessary, but must be willing to learn and put in the necessary work to gain the Level 6 apprenticeship qualification
  • Ability to learn quickly and show enthusiasm for understanding technologies across a wide range of software projects
  • Ability and appetite to gain an in-depth knowledge/understanding of Python and Javascript
  • High degree of communication and people skills to work effectively in a software development team and support staff with non-technical backgrounds
  • Strong problem solving/analytical skills
  • Strong written skills for documentation production
  • Good organisational skills
  • Experience working in a team (this might be a sports team, a team at school, DofE, etc)

Please note; Applicants with degree or Level 4 qualification(s) in IT/Computer Science may not be eligible for this apprenticeship

  • Salary: £24,242 per annum
  • Contract duration: 4-years fixed term
  • Expected Contract End Date: 31/08/2029
