The Role
We are seeking an experienced Architect / Lead Developer who will play a critical role in guiding the technical direction of our assessment platform, while also actively participating in development activities.
This hands-on position combines strategic leadership with practical software engineering, requiring strong architectural vision and expertise in software design. The Architect / Lead Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to build, enhance, and scale our digital assessment solutions, ensuring they are secure, high-performing, and future-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design and Strategy
- Define and drive the architecture of our assessment platforms and supporting applications, focusing on scalability, performance, and robustness.
- Ensure architectural decisions align with business goals and support long-term product scalability and maintainability.
- Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and technologies to improve development processes and product capabilities.
- Design cloud-based solutions with attention to scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
Hands-On Development
- Actively participate in coding, focusing on high-quality, secure, maintainable code that adheres to best practices.
- Collaborate with development teams on code reviews, debugging, and implementation of complex solutions
- Ensure technical excellence by promoting development standards, including testing, security, code quality, and best practices.
- Lead by example in writing clean, efficient, secure, and testable code, and mentor team members in modern software development methodologies.
Technical Leadership and Mentorship
- Provide leadership and technical expertise to a team of developers, fostering a collaborative, innovative environment.
- Serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level developers, encouraging their growth in both technical and problem-solving skills.
- Champion DevOps practices, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and automated testing frameworks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Product Managers, UX/UI Designers, and QA teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Support the Head of Technology in defining project scope, setting timelines, and managing development resources effectively.
- Engage with key stakeholders to communicate technical strategies and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Skills & ExperienceEssential work experience
- Education & Background: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 7+ years of hands-on software development experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architecture role.
- Architecture Skills: Solid experience with architecture patterns like MVC, MVVM, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and to make data-driven architectural decisions.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred work experience
- Experience in Psychometrics or Assessment Tools: Familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of assessment or HR tech industries.
- Agile Methodology: Proven experience working in Agile development environments.
- Certifications: AWS, Azure, or GCP certifications, or other relevant professional certifications.
Technical skills
- Experience developing large, multi-project solutions built in .Net 6+ & .Net Framework 4.7.2.
- Experience working with the full stack including Webforms, MVC, Razor Pages, web api, EntityFramework/EntityFrameworkCore, Bootstrap, SQL Server 2022, git (AZDO/GitHub).
- Experience using Microsoft Azure especially PAAS services e.g. AppService, SqlDatabase.
- Experience of other Microsoft Azure services e.g. FrontDoor, Azure AD B2C is highly desirable
- CI/CD with Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions.
- Experience evolving a monolith architecture to a modular monolith/vertical slices.
- Working with onshore / offshore teams
- Experience with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and serverless computing.
- Expertise in database design and management (both SQL and NoSQL databases).
