We're seeking a driven Assistant Civil Engineer to play a vital role in delivering essential drinking water capital projects. In this position, you'll gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle, from initial conception to final handover.

Main responsibilities:
- Check project scopes ensuring they achieve the required outputs. Ensure all deliverables have followed the company’s quality assurance process and been reviewed by a more experienced Civil Engineer.
- Providing technical solutions and support on intermediate capital projects with the support of a more experienced Civil Engineer, including the production of Scope Documents, Design Drawings, CDM Documents and compilation of job specification packs and works information, to required deadlines.
- Undertake checking of others work for technical acceptance.
- Mentoring of Graduate Civil engineers and apprentices at project level.
- Liaison with internal and external 3rd parties to seek approvals to facilitate projects.
- Undertaking site visits to undertake audits and provide guidance to contractors.
- Report to Senior Engineer/Project Manager with constraints that could impact cost and programme on projects.
- Liaison with third parties to ensure they have the correct information to produce their deliverables.
- Engaging with stakeholders and ensuring third party approvals are gained when required, by applying for or providing support.
- Ensure Technical excellence and best practice is employed in the delivery of project outputs.
You'll need:
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
- HNC, HND or degree in Civil Engineering or similar.
- A member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or other equivalent Engineering Council, licensed professional engineering institution as a Graduate member of the ICE (GMICE) and ideally be working towards chartered status (CEng).
- Have a strong awareness and understanding of industry standards and specifications.
- A keen, committed and motivated individual with excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrate and implement sound engineering judgement.
- Understanding of CDM 2015 and how it is applied to projects.
- Understanding of NEC contracts and their application.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Competent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite - knowledge of Google Workspace would be beneficial
- Some experience in the construction industry, ideally in the water sector.
- Experience in the utility industry, preferably in drinking water.
- Experience in design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets, including WTW, Booster plants, pipelines, services and hydraulics.
- Experienced in technical delivery supporting projects and working in an integrated project team with consultants and contractors.
It will be a bonus if you have:
Skills / Qualifications / Experience
- Knowledge of using Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides etc).
- Experience with clean water distribution systems and pipework design.
- Working in an NEC contractual environment including understanding of how to write Works and Site Information.
- Desirable to have provable water industry experience, with experience working on installation of pipework infrastructure, clean water systems and water treatment plants as well as knowledge of other utilities.
- Knowledge and experience of CIWEM standards and specifications.
- Sound Knowledge of relevant Civil Engineering specific standards and practices.
