Description
Job Purpose

This is a broad summary of the role detailing key areas of operation and responsibilities – further detail will be provided in the Main Duties and Responsibilities section, below, which provides more granular detail. This role is 9-5 3 days a week.

The Post Holder Will Be Responsible For

  • Providing highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention to children and young people with dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing disorders), supporting parents, clients and other professionals in all issues related to client management. Liaison with the MDT is an integral part of the role.
  • Providing highly specialist clinical supervision and line management to other speech and language therapists and support in the training and development of junior dysphagia therapists in the team.
  • Contributing to developments within the Dysphagia team and to the broader service including in the development of policies and procedures relating to clinical care, evidence-based practice, care pathways and outcome development. You will contribute to Trust, service and professional wide initiatives.
  • Delivering training/courses to staff as relevant to the post e.g. specific in-service training across settings to a variety of audiences e.g. parents and staff in school settings
  • To follow clinical guidelines and adapt to local service needs on the basis of specialist clinical knowledge.
  • To take lead on the development of team objectives or projects in liaison with peers and/or manager
  • To develop care protocols for specific clinical issues within the clinical specialism of dysphagia.
  • To monitor issues with service delivery including shortfall, service pressures and share with Clinical Lead with suggestions and recommendations.
  • To take the lead in working groups, policy development groups in the clinical specialism of dysphagia.
  • To contribute to interagency/multi-disciplinary team building and policy development.
  • To implement service and Dysphagia team plans and policies and make contribute to their improvement.

All staff must comply with the Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) NHS Trust Staff Code of Conduct and demonstrate the Trust’s Values and Behaviours. Senior Managers must also comply with the NHS Code of Conduct for Managers, based on the Nolan principles of public accountability. All staff employed in recognised professions are required to ensure they work to the professional standards and/or Codes of Practice set out for their professional group. In addition, staff are required to demonstrate the Customer Care Standards of the organisation.
