About The Role
A great opportunity to join Hounslow’s Building Control Service as a Building Control Surveyor.
Working as part of a busy and ambitious team, up to Class 2 general level, the successful candidate will carry out examination and inspection of Building Regulation submissions, plans and site work to ensure building works comply with Building Regulations, including non-domestic projects. You will assist the Head of Building Control and the Building Control Team Manager with operations within the Borough and to undertake inspection/work when required out of Borough and to include consultation and liaison with other sections and departments.
The successful candidate will ensure that Building Control work is carried out in accordance with documented procedures, timescales and deadlines.
If requested, you will join the Dangerous Structure Rota to assist in the provision of an out of hours emergency service.
With training, you will undertake other works such as Architectural Design, Fire Risk Assessments, and Party Wall Agreements etc.
Key Responsibilities:
- The examination for compliance of appropriate Building Regulation Applications (including Full Plan, Regularisation, Reversion and Building Notices together with appropriate amendments) deposited under the Building Regulations and associated legislation as instructed and making recommendations to the Head of Building Control and Building Control Team Manager including discharging our responsibilities under Safety at Sports Grounds Legislation.
- To work in a small team within an area of the Borough.
- To carry out efficient and regular Building Regulation inspections for all projects (including non-domestic) and to compile accurate records.
- To carry out efficient inspections and to report accurately on dangerous structures and, together with a Building Control Surveyor, advise on remedial measures to be undertaken.
About The Team You’ll Be Working In
The Building Control service sits within the Housing, Planning & Economic Regeneration directorate - working closely with all our colleagues. It is also a team which proactively collaborates with a range of teams across the Council.
The Building Control team is responsible for providing a wide range of services including building regulation compliance through plan assessment and site inspection, response to dangerous structures, demolition notice administration, and enforcement.

Your Skills:
- Ability to clearly communicate and provide advice on technical Building Control matters.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, plans and technical information.

Professional Qualifications:
Successful completion of BSC (Hons) in Building Control, Building Surveying, Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering. Working at or towards the BSR Class 2 non-domestic surveyor level.
