We are looking for a Business Development Manager (Midlands) – International Freight Forwarding. This role will sit in the Midlands region.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for targeting and gaining new business (no billing minimum 6 months) with a core focus on the acquisition of Freight which falls in line with the set sales strategy. You will create a target management plan in line with the identified product and build a rolling pipeline that is at least 5 times the individuals targets (Volume and Revenue).

We are looking for a “hunter” with proven sales experience and excellent knowledge of UK ocean and air freight market. This remote role will require travel and will offer a salary of up to £65,000 (DOE) per annum with an additional £6000 car allowance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • New Business Acquisition
  • Build and maintain a pipeline in Microsoft Dynamics on accordance with company guidelines.
  • Target and qualify a list of potential clients in focus trade identified by Yusen Ocean and Air Freight Sales Management.
  • Gain new business and target new trade lanes within client selection.
  • Provide client and target information, maintain CRM with 100% accuracy on every sales call and visits.
  • Plan and achieve minimum number of sales calls per week (between 5-10).
  • Generate sales leads to overseas offices and network and establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaboration Champion(Sales & Product)
  • Engage with the Air and Ocean management team to facilitate identification of opportunities and review target management plan continuously.
  • Drive business development reviews and to ensure that CRM is updated to the highest standards.
  • Ensure detailed SOPs are in place for all new clients onboarded.
  • Quantitative and Qualitative Reporting & Industry engagement
  • Monthly review of performance and action plan setting (where needed).
  • Regular presentations of pipeline and activities using Microsoft Dynamics (dashboard) to management.
  • Drive air and ocean freight webinars and share market intel from both the industry and forwarding environment.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Proven track record of closing major opportunities.
  • A commercial mindset with a track record of new business development, always pinpointing new opportunities for growth and succeeding.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK air and ocean freight market
  • Ability to identify market leads and convert them into business opportunities
  • Ability to critically analyse information, present to the relevant stakeholders and provide recommendations.
  • Self-confident, results driven with the ability to empathise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Extensive proven sales experience of working in a multi-national freight forwarding company.
  • Driving Licence (travel will be required)
