Buyer in our
Supply Chain team in Bristol or Newcastle, the successful candidate will be responsible for executing best-practice procurement strategies aligned with
Geoquip Marine’s procedures, while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement. This role focuses on providing exceptional service to internal stakeholders and supporting the fleet’s operational needs. You will
manage strategic purchasing activities, engaging with key and new suppliers to fulfil the global offshore operations' requirements. Additionally, you will manage specific supplier relationships and procurement categories.
What You’ll Do
- Preparing Requests for Quotations (RFQs) in compliance with company procedures to ensure timely procurement of goods and services.
- Negotiating with suppliers to secure the best commercial terms, optimising value for Geoquip Marine.
- Managing allocated suppliers and categories, ensuring the delivery of cost-effective solutions and best value.
- Collaborating closely with the Finance department to ensure accurate cost coding, invoice reconciliation and a smooth procure-to-pay process.
- Maintaining organised records of procurement activities for auditing purposes, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Providing training and support to colleagues, helping to develop team skills and capabilities.
- Attending relevant project meetings, update calls and supplier meetings as required to ensure alignment with procurement objectives.
- Engaging with credit controllers and customer service teams to resolve issues related to payments and deliveries.
- Identifying and reporting cost-saving opportunities, contributing to the company's cost-efficiency goals.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvement within the Supply Chain department, supporting continuous development and operational efficiency.
- Establishing and maintaining an effective system for monitoring purchase orders, following up with suppliers regarding late deliveries or discrepancies between delivery notes and purchase orders.
- Supporting the Logistics department when required to ensure smooth operational processes.
- Monitoring supplier performance, ensuring quality, service levels, and timely deliveries.
- Conducting market research to stay updated on trends and new supplier opportunities.
- Coordinating with departments to align procurement with production and project timelines.
- Managing supplier contracts, ensuring compliance and handling renewals or amendments.
- Collaborating with legal teams to ensure procurement agreements meet company policies and legal standards.
- Analysing procurement data to identify trends and make informed purchasing decisions.
- Assisting with budget preparation by providing procurement forecasts and cost estimates.
- Supporting sustainability efforts by sourcing environmentally responsible products and services.
- Resolving supplier disputes quickly to minimise disruptions in the supply chain.
- Performing any other duties as necessary, within the scope of the role and the individual's competencies, to support the team and organisation.
Who We’re Looking For
- BSc or MSc in Business, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management, with sufficient industry experience in a similar role
- MCIPS or equivalent qualification (qualified or actively working towards)
- Proven experience in international procurement and purchasing operations
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders
- Experience within Marine, Vessels, Oil & Gas or Heavy Engineering would be an added bonus
