Advisory & Digital Solutions is a core part of Costain’s strategy to broaden our mix of services and grow margin performance. We work across all sectors helping our priority customers access the whole of Costain to help them solve their most complex infrastructure problems across the asset lifecycle.

The Capability Lead will sit within the overall Projects Controls Advisory Capability, the Capability consists of approximately 100 resources deployed across multiple clients and industries.

You will be responsible for leading and delivering the development of your service into an established, growing, outward looking and recognised, client focused consultancy service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a vision and technical strategy for the Project Controls disciplines, identifying and addressing gaps in service offering in line with the Advisory and Digital Solutions strategy
  • Work with sector and consultancy leads to gain a deep understanding of internal and customer requirements, then shape and develop the team to meet the needs of the sectors
  • Provide quality input to proposals/ bids ensuring relevant technical input is provided when required and look to grow ability into a bid management capability
  • Rapid recruitment (strategic hiring) for sustainability and growth. To recruit the necessary skilled personnel to the Project Controls team to ensure sustainable operation in all discipline activities and ensure that the optimum balance is achieved between the use of staff and agency workers
  • Ensure that suitably qualified and experienced resources are provided to projects in a timely manner whilst ensuring that departmental utilisation targets are achieved
  • Actively promote the project controls disciplines both internally and externally
  • Manage the department budget
  • Actively manage and develop the Project Controls disciplines, so that they are able to meet their own deliverables in terms of quality and timelines
  • Be responsible for managing the training and development of the team ensuring that the capability is broadened towards integrated project controls and consultancy and work winning capabilities
  • Monitoring, controlling and reporting on Key Performance Indicators
  • Reporting to the Head of Project Controls you will be responsible for leading and developing the Advisory Consultancy team into an established, growing consultancy service.
  • You will lead the growth in technical offering, revenue, profit, headcount and market presence within the team whilst also taking responsibility for the provision of a quality service to internal stakeholders
  • You will be required to work closely with the Planning Technology Lead, the Cost Capability Lead, the Data Insights Capability Lead, the Information and Knowledge Management Capability Lead, the Risk Capability Lead and project stakeholders to provide a quality and consistent consultancy project control service to commissions across all sectors.
  • Alongside your duties as a Project Controls leader, you will also be expected to provide hands on delivery or other project controls services. You will be working within project teams providing an integrated, timely and reliable service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the existing systems and tools are utilised effectively whilst always looking for continuous improvement and further integration in discussion with the other Capability Leads
  • Be responsible for ensuring that weekly and monthly reporting requirements are met in line with internal and external customer requirements
  • Work closely with the other Advisory capability leads to ensure a collaborative and consistent approach
  • Development of Project Controls procedures and working practices
  • Interact with technical assurance to ensure our governance and deliverables are correct
  • Prepare, check and/or approve deliverables on contracts, where necessary. Intervention, involvement and support of contracts, when required
  • Provide quality assurance, complete peer reviews, deep dives and problem solve
  • Apply a philosophy of continuous improvement.
  • Work with Head of Project Controls to accelerate growth in Project Control consultancy services

Essential

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Have significant and proven post qualification experience in a project management and/or project controls role with a good understanding of planning and integration with other project controls disciplines.
  • Flexibility to work remotely and at different offices across the UK
  • Line/Department Management experience essential
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Be able to relate in a confident manner to people at all levels
  • Demonstrate skill in identifying, analysing and solving problems and coming up with innovative solutions
  • Significant and proven experience of managing a team in PMO environments
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary projects
  • Business Development and work winning experience and understanding
  • Able to prioritise work effectively, delegate and train staff, and take accountability and ownership of requirements of role and department

Desirable

  • Experience in creating and communicating sales propositions.
  • MSP, P30 and/or MoP qualifications or equivalents
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Appropriate Project Controls Qualifications
