Our Capability Manager role is in our UK Electronics division which has strength in Radar, Advanced Targeting, Electronic Warfare and a wide range of airborne mission critical systems and capabilities for the military and homeland security applications. The division is organised into Lines of Business (LoB) and this role is within the Radar and Advanced Targeting LoB.
What You'll Do As a Capability Manager
You will provide technical leadership to the business in the area of Electro Optic systems. Working within the Advanced Targeting Capability team, you will be responsible for developing product strategy, matching products and technologies with customer needs, defining the future product roadmaps, managing the company investment into related products and technologies, and providing technical support to business winning and industrial partnering activities.
A key part of the role is to liaise and collaborate with a variety of technical and non-technical people within the organisation to assimilate and disseminate information, manage relationships and align a team with the strategic intent, most notably Engineering, Sales and Project Management colleagues. External stakeholder management within complex environments is also fundamental in building the relationships to aid with the delivery of business opportunities and growth. This may involve solution development and/or workshare discussions with external partners, supporting technical meetings, delivering presentations at conferences / workshops, business winning negotiations, etc.
The role is based in Edinburgh with hybrid working available. Occasional UK and international travel is likely to be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Definition of the product strategy for the Electro Optic Sensor product lines
- Develop the roadmaps, product plans and business cases for current and future Electro Optic products
- Define and manage the Company investment plans for Electro Optic products & services
- Work as part of a team shaping business and technical relationships with key International Partners
- Work with the Electro Optic Chief Technologist to ensure the Applied Research programme provides the technology to underpin the product strategy in the required timescales
- Contribute to business development activities as a key member of the team, leading in the creation of the technical solution during bid preparation and customer engagement
- Support the Sales organisation in assessing markets, the competitive landscape, future key customers and securing new business through technical intimacy with customers
- Provide specialist technical advice on Electro Optic products and technologies
- Chairing Solution Reviews to ensure the customer value proposition is optimised and the solution is consistent with Leonardo product strategy
- Collaborate across the organisation to facilitate and support cross-organisation business opportunities
What We'll Need From You
- Degree educated, or equivalent, with experience in the defence industry and a track record of building effective relationships with customers and partners.
- A strong background in Electro Optic system design and/or operation is highly desirable, as is a background in product development or product management. Ability to provide leadership and strategic vision for the Electro Optic product lines of the future and having a passion for working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and customers to develop the best solutions possible.
