The Role
JOB DESCRIPTION
This role focuses on supporting the capital team in meeting the objectives of the Actuarial and Risk Functions across the Ascot Group, with a particular focus on stochastic modelling to inform capital requirements and portfolio analyses.
The role will support the Head of Capital in developing and maintaining the internal group capital model, group credit rating analysis and regulatory capital, including Lloyd’s reporting. Additional responsibilities of the role include contributing to the maintenance and development of internal and external reports, ensuring documentation is kept up to date and preparing related analyses to support business strategy.
In addition to line management responsibilities, as a project leader the role will contribute to day-to-day management and training of colleagues within the team, including the mentoring of actuarial students through actuarial exams.
The Team
Ascot’s capital modelling team is part of the actuarial function. It is well established in London and has had responsibility for the UK regulatory filings (including Lloyd’s) alongside further model uses around business performance and strategy. Over the recent years this responsibility has expanded to include servicing Ascot Group’s requirements including credit rating analysis alongside regulatory work and other model uses.
The capital team is led by the Head of Capital, based in London where most of the team are based. The reporting streams are work dependent, e.g. the Syndicate work reports up through the Syndicate’s Chief Actuary, Group credit rating analysis reports up through the Group Head of Capital (based in Bermuda), and US specific analysis reports up through the Ascot US CRO.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Lead capital model development projects in line with model development plan.
- Manage risk parameterisation projects across all risk categories on a cyclical basis.
- A particular focus for this role will be supporting the modelling of the overseas entities (Ascot US and Ascot Bermuda) including parameterisation, reinsurance analysis, and associated group capital reporting with opportunity for travel.
- Key contributor to regulatory filings, such as standard formula, BSCR and Lloyd’s SCR, along with supporting documentation.
- Lead model use projects including portfolio analyses, reinsurance analyses, and capital allocation.
- Take a lead role in the first line of validation testing including preparation of validation schedules, production of test results, and providing rationale of testing outcome from a non-independent perspective.
- Preparation of papers and supporting analysis for committee meetings, with opportunity to present findings.
- Preparation of materials for external meetings with credit rating agencies.
- Liaise with individuals outside of capital team on projects involving other areas of the business in order to further the objectives of the capital team.
- Contribution to underlying analysis and preparation of the annual Actuarial Function and ORSA/GISSA reporting, including stress and reverse stress testing analyses.
- Production and update of internal model policies, technical procedure and methodology documents owned by the actuarial function.
- Provide actuarial support to the wider objectives of the actuarial team across pricing and reserving and supporting the risk function as required.

- Day-to-day management of the capital team’s processes and delegating work across the team to ensure projects are delivered of a high quality in a timely manner.

- Provide training for members of the actuarial function to develop their technical expertise, ensuring knowledge is shared within the team.
- Undertake relevant technical training and attendance of relevant events/seminars.
- Represent Ascot’s interests in market forums on actuarial matters.
- Provide ad-hoc actuarial support for other Ascot offices, including Ascot Group, Ascot Bermuda and Ascot US.
Skills
- Experience of capital modelling and model validation.
- ReMetrica experience preferred.
- A self-motivated, proactive individual with the ability to challenge and improve existing processes, and workflows.
- Strong people and process management skills, with a proven track record of delivering results through the enablement of others.
- A desire to further develop existing skills by seeking feedback and support as appropriate, and a willingness to provide the same level of support and knowledge sharing with the team.

- Strong organisational and project management skills.
- Microsoft platform experience (e.g. Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI).
- Other programming experience, e.g. SQL, R, Python advantageous.
