About the Role

An excellent opportunity has opened within our Operations department for a Cargo Superintendent to join us and be based out of our operation in the London Gateway.


Reporting to the BCP Cargo Manager, our ideal candidate will oversee the cargo team and all operations, ensuring all processes and procedures are followed efficiently.


Location: Stanford Le Hope

Working Hours: Mon – Friday 37.5 hours


How will you contribute:


  • Plan, monitor, supervise and manage daily shift cargo operations and processes to achieve productivity, cost and safety targets.
  • Manage employees, contractors, visitors, and processes, adhering to safety and operational policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations and equipment functionality.
  • Plan and coordinate cargo operations with the Cargo Manager, other Cargo Team Leaders and operational teams.
  • Ensure team members are briefed on forthcoming shift operations and expected outcomes.
  • Meet operational objectives and customer expectations through effective planning.
  • Manage the daily operational requirements of clients, agents, authorities and external suppliers.
  • Allocate work priorities to the cargo team according to port objectives.
  • Contribute to continuous business improvement and meeting business objectives.
  • Liaise with the Project Cargo Adviser for planning and executing Project Cargo, Out of Gauge, and Un-containerised cargo movements.
  • Prepare and manage risk assessments and safe work instructions.
  • Manage lashing materials and timber resources for Out of Gauge, Project Cargo and Un-containerised cargo.
  • Develop and mentor the team, providing feedback and working collaboratively with the People team.
  • Maintain high standards of work practice and safety rules, building a proactive safety culture.
  • Provide reporting and data insights into Control Room operations.



What will you Bring:


  • Experience in Project Cargo, Break Bulk and Out of Gauge operations.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

  • A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence allowing you to drive on UK roads.
  • No unspent criminal convictions.
  • Due to manufacturing guidelines on equipment and site safety critical health and safety requirements, we have strict weight and medical requirements that need to be met and maintained. For our safety critical roles health and medical and fitness checks are performed. Requirements include, but are not limited to, weight, height, blood pressure and hearing.
  • We may close our roles early, depending on the number of applications received.
