Which is why we are excited to announce a new opportunity to join our team as a Chemistry Team Leader. You’ll be responsible for the leadership and management of a team of expert Laboratory Scientists who undertake the analysis of regulatory drinking water samples and associated samples from water treatment works, service reservoirs, customer taps and catchment surveys which deliver regulatory commitments to the Drinking Water Inspectorate. You’ll be accountable for ensuring that all samples are analysed and results reported in compliance with the requirements of the Quality Management System and ISO17025 / DWTS accreditation.

You’ll investigate, solve, and proactively prevent data and quality assurance issues through route cause analysis. You’ll also drive and develop continuous improvement within your team and work with internal and external stakeholders.

Some Of Your Other Key Accountabilities Will Include

  • Direct First Line Management responsibility for a team of expert quality analysts involving complex technical analytical processes & instrumentation.
  • Manage internal and external compliance requirements; liaising with Human Resources, QMS, DWI, Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency, UKAS, Royal Society of Chemistry, Royal Society of Biology and any other relevant organizations with which we work.
  • Effective resource management to deliver requirements of the Annual Sampling Plan whilst balancing against reactive workloads through freedom of thinking. Delivery of key targets such as unrecoverable shortfalls by driving best practice within the team.
  • Undertake effective staff recruitment and selection. Ensure new starters receive an effective induction into the company and deliver a comprehensive training programme in line with QMS and Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements.
  • Responsible for final sign off of training records of Laboratory Scientists and Senior Laboratory Scientists ensuring competency in line with QMS and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and increase staff morale, motivation and engagement in line with HR policies, Inspiring Great Performance and 1-2-1s. Ensure each team member has a documented development plan identifying and nurturing talent.
  • Ensure that the team are competent and customer focused, acting as ambassadors for Analytical Services and have the skills required for their roles, identify and implement upskilling and training plans as required.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

To be considered for this role, experience in a regulatory laboratory environment in the Water Industry, similar Utility or Environmental Industries would be required. Having some supervisory experience and worked within an ISO quality system would be essential.
