About The Role

As a Support Worker, you will be required to provide high-quality care that empowers individuals to live fulfilling lives while promoting independence and dignity. You will work within a team and receive training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to help manage challenging behaviours and provide the best possible support.

You’ll play a vital role in enabling the people you support to live fulfilling, happy, and independent lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support individuals with a range of complex health needs, including learning disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and personal care needs.
  • Provide personal care including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting in a sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Help individuals with daily tasks such as meal preparation, household chores, managing finances, and maintaining a clean and accessible home environment.
  • Promote independence and encourage individuals to make choices and decisions about their lives.
  • Support individuals to access the community, engage in social activities, and enjoy hobbies or interests that enhance their quality of life.
  • Administer medication as prescribed, ensuring accurate record-keeping and following medication protocols.
  • Foster and maintain healthy relationships with individuals, their families, and other professionals, encouraging positive social interactions.
  • Work with the individual and the team to develop and follow person-centred care plans and risk assessments tailored to each person’s specific needs.
  • Use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques to manage and reduce challenging behaviours, providing a supportive and safe environment.
  • Report changes in an individual’s health, behaviour, or well-being to the Service Manager.
  • Support individuals outside of the home setting if required, for example, attending hospital appointments, going on holidays, or providing support in other settings such as a police station.
  • Ensure that all safeguarding procedures are followed and that individuals’ rights are upheld at all times.
  • Work as part of a supportive team to deliver high standards of care and ensure the wellbeing of all individuals.

Role Details:

Role Type: Full Time

Hours: 36 -48 hours per week

Shift Patterns: 3 x 12 hour shifts week 1, 4 x 12 hour shifts week 2

Location: Clacton on Sea

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience in care or support work, particularly with individuals with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, or challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to remain patient, calm, and understanding in challenging situations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with individuals, their families, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to promoting independence and supporting individuals to make choices about their own lives.
  • Resilience and the ability to cope with difficult and emotional situations.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and evenings if required.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding procedures and health and safety.
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Availability to work every other weekend
