Consultant in Acute Medicine: Up to 10 PA’s
We are extremely excited to welcome a skilled Acute Medicine Consultant to our outstanding team at Torbay Hospital. With a focus on high-quality patient care within a collaborative, dynamic working environment, this is your chance to make a real difference in an area that offers both professional fulfilment and a wonderful quality of life.
Supported by a truly dedicated and emotionally invested team with a collective desire to improve, develop and enjoy their time at work together, you will be joining a team that maintains patient safety, dignity and care at the centre of their ethos.
You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with acute medical conditions, ensuring that they receive a ‘second-to-none’ standard of care from admission to discharge. You will work closely with other consultants, resident doctors, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure patient pathways operate unhindered.
The Acute Medicine department at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic department known for taking a hands-on role in service development, quality improvement, education and training.
In December 2022, we opened the doors to our brand new Acute Medical Unit (AMU) that boasts 36 assessment spaces, split across level 2 and level 3, and that houses our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) facility. We also take responsibility for additional Acute Medicine capacity on our 24 bed EAU4 (Emergency Assessment Unit).
The team is responsible for the care of patients across these areas alongside providing an Acute Medicine in-reach service in the Emergency Department during daytime hours.
We are looking for an individual that will strive to provide:
- Highest-quality care to our patients, prioritising their safety and dignity.
- Authentic, confident leadership.
- In-depth teaching and training to under/postgraduates and to supervise our Resident and Specialty Doctors.
- Positive/active engagement in departmental governance and improvement.
- Effective liaison with all manner of operational, clinical and support teams across the service.
- Constructive participation in audit and quality assurance processes.
Acute Medicine benefits from an experienced and knowledgeable leadership team that has a strong working relationship with the Trust senior leadership and executive team through its work in development of our acute services.
Acute Medicine is well known as a nurturing and supportive department both for senior medical staff and for doctors in training. We work collaboratively with the well-established multidisciplinary teams of nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and discharge co-ordinators on our Emergency Assessment Unit and Acute Medical Unit, all of which maintain a strong culture of safety and professionalism.
