We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Core Performance Manager.
The Manager for Core Performance is responsible for development Performance of the RR SMR Reactor Core in normal operation, inclusive of:
- multiple disciplines including Reactor Physics, Thermal Hydraulics, Fuel Performance.
- Core design/ physics code packages ( eg Casmo-Simulate)
- Core transient performance in normal operations and some frequent faults (eg start up, load changes)
- Thermal hydraulic analysis of normal operating transients (eg DNBR margin)
The role covers the technical and programme leadership of large teams of analysts. This includes: the overall direction and governance of the programmes of work under their scope; accepting the validity of the methods and analysis developed under their direction; the delivery of a robust method development, producing performance and underpinning safety assessments; ensuring outputs comply with environment, safety, security and safeguards (E3S) objectives and SMR best practice for performance and method development; developing the team capabilities and resilience; and resolving emergent issues.
The Manager for the Core Performance is a leadership figure within Engineering. It requires strong performance experience, proven leadership skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. They will use their experience and abilities to steer and influence colleagues across reactor design, displaying a positive and collaborative leadership style that ensures successful team management.
Success will demand engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, inclusive of industry bodies and regulators, to ensure the allocated design programme is progressed in accordance with broader business and legislative requirements.
Key Selection Criteria for the role:
Nuclear industry domain knowledge including:
Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) design, plant and behaviour. Reactor plant operations, philosophy and procedures.
Core design Methods:
- Experience of using numerical tools and software
- Design basis fault assessment methods
- UK Safety Case and Regulatory practises
- Development of Core physics and thermal hydraulic analysis models for industry standard tools
- Establishing analysis methodologies based on RGP which integrate multiple technical disciplines such as thermal hydraulics and fuel performance.
- Development of pre and post processing software tools such as in Python.
- Familiarity with software development processes and quality assurance arrangements
Technical leadership and programme delivery:
- Definition of an engineering project/programme of work.
- Delivery of programme milestones in line with agreed plans and budgets.
- Management of risks.
- Monitoring of progress.
- Technical writing and communication.
Leading People:
- Experience leading others.
- People development, including feedback and coaching.
UK Safety Case and Regulatory practises
Environmental, Safety, Security and Safeguarding (E3S) regulations and principals (including application of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) and Best Available Technique (BAT) principals).
Pay And Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600 DOE plus:-
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
- Flexible hybrid working model _ UK based
- Part Time or Full Time contract available
- Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
- Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
