PLEASE NOTE: This is a fixed-term contract position of 6 months with the potential to become permanent.
Hours
Both part time and full time hours will be considered, at 22.5 or 37.5 hours per week, dependent on candidate.
Purpose
- To provide operational leadership of the Creamery Team in Botton Village and support other people in the wider Food Production team.
- Ensure safe, effective and efficient production of cheese and other dairy products from the milk produced by the herd on our farm.
- Ensure customer service excellence for both internal and external customers of our food products.

Locations & Travel:
Botton Village (Danby, North Yorkshire).
The role will be based at Botton Village, Danby, in the North Yorkshire Moors. To be considered for the role, you must be able to reliably travel to our site.
Duties & Responsibilities
Health and Food Safety:
- Lead the team to ensure our production systems and processes keep people and food safe; maintain records to evidence the effectiveness of our systems and processes in doing so.
- Identify, report and follow up any buildings/equipment issues with our PALS teams and/or external contractors as required, through to problem solved.
- Find solutions to operational challenges and escalate risks or issues that are outside your control or influence to mitigate/resolve.
- Ensure products are safety tested and results acted upon appropriately.
- Stock control – keeping production tracking up to date (spreadsheet), using this to organise the micro-testing, getting the samples prepared for the testing (this is paperwork and labelling), keeping track of results coming back in.
Production Quality And Efficiency
- Lead the team to ensure products are made in accordance with our specifications.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately to provide smooth operations with as little interruption as possible.
- Oversee and assure the quality of products, ensuring consistency and time sensitivities are considered at all stages of the production process.
- Ensure we adhere to the organic standards as set out by the certifying body.
- Develop new products in line with the Creamery investment plans.
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service for internal and external customers including taking orders and organising couriers.
- Cutting, wrapping and boxing cheeses for a variety of customers.
People
- Support the Manager to recruit, induct, integrate and train new staff.
- Line Manage the Creamery team, ensuring clear and effective communication and that team members are supported to achieve job satisfaction and success in their roles.
- Assisting the Manager with staffing schedules/rotas to ensure we resource production efficiently and effectively.
Green Care
- Everything we do at the Trust is to enable a life of opportunity for the people we support, adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health support needs. In partnership with our Green Care colleagues, this role will be instrumental in determining and enabling the meaningful role participants in the Supported Catering, Food Processing and Production programme can play in our food production processes.
- Championing the ‘farm to fork’ ethos and sharing your knowledge of the role the food we produce here plays in offering health and environmental benefits to people who choose our produce.
Essential
Knowledge & Experience:
- You will need to be competent using the Microsoft office suite.
- Practical, logical nature and experience of working with machinery, ideally in a food production environment.
- The role requires some basic maths for calculations and measuring.
- Food safety practices and regulation training.
- Previous cheesemaking experience.
