Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Architect to join our growing Data & AI team. The successful applicant will work alongside our architects and consultants to deliver high-quality data solutions to help our customers become more successful in becoming a data-guided organisation.
The Data Architect is responsible for planning, designing and delivering elegant solutions using Microsoft Azure data services. The Data Architect engages in the full project lifecycle from presales through to operational handover and is accountable for the technical delivery of projects. The Data Architect must also be a passionate advocate of innovation with a preference towards using new technology to solve business problems.
Due to the nature of this role successful candidates will need to undergo security clearance. Therefore, to be eligible for this role you must have lived in the UK for at least 5 consecutive years. More information on SC Clearance checks can be found here
Responsibilities
- Designing cloud-based data platforms and data solutions using a wide range of Azure Services including Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory and Azure Blob storage
- Building conceptual, logical and physical data models optimised for analytical use cases
- Defining data architecture framework, standards and principles
- Mapping data from source to target and establishing current & future state based on business requirements
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members
- Responsible for the technical readiness, scalability, & quality assurance of final deliverables
- Effectively translate and accurately communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders as well as facilitate discussions within a multidisciplinary team
About you
- Strong experience in modern data platform architecture (Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, Dimensional Modelling, Streaming vs Batching, etc)
- Knowledge and understanding of key data strategy pillars across people, processes and technology
- Knowledge and understanding of Data Management principles, including Data Governance, Data Quality, Master and Reference Data Management, Metadata Management, Security and Compliance
- Strong experience in Data Warehouse methodologies
- Experience working across Azure Data Services including Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, Azure Blob storage and Power BI
- Strong experience in SQL
- Good understanding of Azure infrastructure (Subscriptions/Resource Groups, Virtual Networks, Kubernetes, Security options, etc)
- Good understanding of modern reporting platforms (dashboarding, advanced analytics, AI)
- An ability to explain complex problems in a simple and effective manner
- Strong peer and senior stakeholder management skills (including engagement with exec level sponsors)
Knowledge and experience of the following would be advantageous:
- Knowledge of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks
- Good knowledge of Azure DevOps Pipelines
- Strong experience in Apache Spark framework
- Previous experience in designing and delivering data warehouse and business intelligence solutions using on-premises Microsoft stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
- Knowledge of any other enterprise product/tool for CI/CD e.g.: Terraform, Jenkins, etc.
- Relevant certification (Azure Architect Expert and/or TOGAF Practitioner)
