Job Title: Contract Data Centre Technician
Location: Woking, Surrey (On-site, 5 days a week)
Contract: Day Rate - £180 (Outside IR35)
Duration: 3 Months (with possibility for extension)
Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Data Centre Technician to support our consulting client’s operations at their data centre in Woking. This is a full-time, on-site role that requires a strong technical background in data centre infrastructure and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Installation & Maintenance:
- Install, configure, and decommission servers, network equipment, and storage devices.
- Perform rack mounting, cabling, and power management in accordance with standards.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Monitor data centre systems and respond promptly to hardware faults, network alerts, and incidents.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, connectivity, and power issues.
Infrastructure Management:
- Perform routine equipment checks to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage asset tracking and update inventory records.
Cabling & Connectivity:
- Patch network and power cables efficiently and securely.
- Maintain and troubleshoot structured cabling infrastructure.
Documentation:
- Update logs, reports, and operational documentation to reflect real-time changes and incidents.
- Ensure accurate recording of equipment details and configurations.
Health & Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to health and safety protocols while working in the data centre environment.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace in line with operational standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise:
- Hands-on experience with server, network, and storage hardware installation and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with data centre environments, including power and cooling considerations.
Networking Knowledge:
- Understanding of basic networking concepts, including IP configurations, patching, and connectivity troubleshooting.
Problem-Solving:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and connectivity issues independently.
Tools & Software:
- Comfortable using asset management tools and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
Desirable Skills
- Experience with structured cabling standards and practices.
- Familiarity with industry best practices for data centre operations.
- Certifications in CompTIA Server+, Network+, or similar qualifications.
