Data Protection Manager (UK)
Location: Flexible on location and office base within the UK, with visits to all D&G sites as and when required.
Salary: Competitive
Contract Type: Permanent.
We have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and hardworking individual to join our Risk & Compliance team as a Data Protection Manager.
The successful individual will report into our Group Data Protection Officer and will play a key role in performing the activities necessary to ensure data protection and privacy compliance across the UK business, whilst giving relevant advice and guidance to support the UK business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Give appropriate input and practical advice to the specific UK business units, following the agreed processes to demonstrate compliance. Support Client / Partner discussions where required.
- Involvement in the design phase of solutions to ensure these will meet UK compliance requirements.
- Individual Rights – oversee the GDPR individual request function to ensure that requests are actioned within the legal time limits allowed, with any issues escalated.
- Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) – ensure these are complete for the all D&G UK data controllers and kept up to date through regular review, including to verify that data is not retained longer than necessary.
- Risk management – identify UK data protection risks and ensure Data Protection Impact / Legitimate Interest Assessments are carried out where required.
- Contracts – ensure that data protection clauses in UK client / supplier contracts are in line with the standard terms agreed in the Legal Data Protection Handbook.
- Breach management – ensure all confirmed UK personal data breaches are recorded on the group’s central log and risk assessed / escalated in line with the group Data Breach Scoring Matrix.
- Data transfers – ensure a documented lawful mechanism is in place to allow UK restricted international transfers to be made with adequate safeguards.
- Supervisory Authority – liaise as appropriate with the relevant regulatory bodies (e.g. ICO) to provide the necessary input on registration, complaints, breach notification and consultations.
- Compliance monitoring – provide management information on a regular basis to demonstrate compliance for the UK business units and highlight any compliance gaps.
- Exceptions – where the applicable laws or group policies cannot be followed and an exception or derogation is formally agreed, maintain a log of these instances.
Skills And Experience Required:
- Detailed knowledge of UK data privacy law and regulation is required (e.g. UK GDPR / PECR).
- Recognised data privacy qualification at practitioner level is preferred (e.g. PC.dp, GDPR-P, CIPP/E).
- Strong ethical and customer values.
- Analytical thinking, critical thinking and decision making.
- Good verbal and written communication of technical matters to varying audiences in particular experience in engaging with senior managers.
- Business and Commercial awareness.
- Proven ability to achieve and sustain a high level of accuracy and efficiency.
- Good collaboration, conflict resolution, influence, and negotiation skills.
