Are you looking to play a role in the Data & Insight transformation journey of a successful and fast-growing omnichannel retailer? It’s an exciting time at Dunelm, the UK’s biggest homewares brand, as we look to strengthen our talented Analytics and Data Science team in order to achieve our mission to put data and insight at the heart of decision making across the business.
As a Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in driving data-informed decision-making across Dunelm by developing and deploying machine learning models that help us better understand and predict customer behaviour online and in-store, and drive business performance through forecasting, optimisation and other advanced analytical techniques. You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining robust, scalable models that underpin how we engage with customers, plan for the future and shape strategic decisions. By combining technical expertise with strong stakeholder relationships, you’ll ensure that our solutions are trusted, understood and drive meaningful business change, always keeping the customer at the heart of everything we do.
This role can be based in either Syston, Leicester or London.

What you will be doing:
- Design, develop and deploy data science solutions to solve a wide range of business problems, from personalisation to forecasting and optimisation, ensuring outputs are activated by providing insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to align solutions with Dunelm’s strategic goals, while building trusted relationships that empower colleagues to confidently understand, trust and apply data science models in their decision-making.
- Adopt a test-and-learn mindset, embracing simplicity, adaptability and iterative development to drive continuous improvement.
- Build robust, scalable machine learning pipelines with thoughtful design that supports long-term sustainability and ongoing optimisation.
- Champion data science best practices across I&A including version control, unit testing, code review, documentation, model governance and performance monitoring.
- Embed responsible AI principles into all solutions, with focus on fairness, transparency and ethical integrity.
- Drive innovation and contribute to the vision for data science at Dunelm by exploring emerging tools and techniques and recommending ways to improve the quality and impact of our outputs.
- Play an active role in contributing towards the culture of the Insight & Analytics team, as well as being an advocate for data, insight and the voice of the customer across the organisation
What skills we look for:
- Experience applying data science techniques and building machine learning models in a commercial setting to solve real-world business problems.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience in data wrangling, statistical modelling, and machine learning.
- Experience using version control tools, such as GitLab.
- Strong commercial instinct and business acumen, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and deliver actionable insights. · Creative and curious mindset, with the ability to interrogate data to uncover trends, patterns and underlying drivers.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and explain data science models to non-technical audiences in a clear and engaging way.
- Adaptable and proactive, thriving in a fast-paced environment with a test-and-learn mindset.
- Keen interest in staying up to date with the latest developments in data science and industry trends
- Degree in a quantitative field such as Maths, Stats, Economics, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent professional experience.
