WSP UK Limited have committed to halving the carbon footprint of our designs and advice in the decade to 2030. To complement this initiative WSP Industry are seeking to grow its Decarbonisation capability in the UK to support an exciting and growing pipeline of projects
Across Two Main Sectors
- Advanced Chemical Manufacturing, Fine Chemicals & Fibres
- Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences
We are a multi-disciplinary Process Industry design team that are involved from Concept stage tothe full delivery of built projects. Our core work is conceptual and detailed design work, but we regularly get involved with all stages from site master planning/feasibility all the way through to construction completion. We provide our own estimates and proposals support in winning work; we then deliver the designs not only as part of our own multi-disciplinary team, but often integrated with Clients with whom we work very closely to achieve Net Zero.

Core parts of the Industry team are based in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and Teesside but are also represented by individuals based at WSP’s offices across the UK.
We are looking for a person to strengthen the team through their experience, acting as a leader for WSP Industry and assisting our Clients in achieving their decarbonisation targets.
This is a client-facing role where you will play a major part in changing the shape and delivery of our decarbonisation offering, developing strategies and target markets.
On a day-to-day basis you will engage with clients to understand the decarbonisation challenges they face in their respective sectors and at each of their delivery sites.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary project delivery team which will develop bespoke decarbonisation concepts and strategies, taking them from development to delivery.
Your team will include consultants, engineers and design technicians within the Industry team
and you will be able to draw on further specialists within our Water and Energy business units to provide technical solutions.
- Meeting clients, manufacturers or suppliers to understand their decarbonisation challenges and auditing their sites, plant or process where required;
- Providing bespoke technical recommendations to clients on how to achieve their decarbonisation targets.
- Supporting Client care and business development across both sectors;
- Advising on design software and tools that will enable designers and engineers to
- effectively deliver decarbonisation initiatives;
- Providing input into forecasts of future work for both sectors – primarily decarbonisation- related work but other leads/opportunities identified from meetings with potential clients;
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory and economic trends affecting both sectors, in order to
- inform company-wide Business Development efforts
- Work winning and Business Development;
- Strategic Planning for new clients and opportunities;
- Support our proposal teams with technical delivery strategies.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
Experienced as a Chartered Process / Mechanical / Electrical Engineer Experience in leading teams either within a Client / Consulting Environment Experienced in managing Decarbonisation initiatives in an Energy Intensive Sector including:
- Chemical / Fine Chemicals Production
- Refining
- Power Generation
- Metals Refining
- Primary Pharma
- Ideally have experience in managing projects to deliver low carbon solutions using one or several of the following:
- Hydrogen Reforming
- CCUS
- Green Hydrogen Production
- Alternative Fuelling
- Biofuels
- Low Grade Heat Recovery including Rankin Engines
- Electrical Energy Efficiency Initiatives
- Insulation Improvements
- Experience in developing solutions which can be assessed by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and PAS 2080.
- Demonstrable experience of Leading Teams within organisations and helping clients in achieving Net Zero
- Strong Business Development Skills
- Target driven with budget responsibility skills
- The ability to work on your own initiative on technical matters, providing consultancy support and advice to our clients and to others within the team.
- Excellent communication skills both internally and externally.
