YouGov is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Deputy General Counsel to support the General Counsel in providing comprehensive legal advice, guidance and strategy across the organisation’s UK, EU, US and APAC markets.
This is a key leadership role with significant responsibility for managing legal risk, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the achievement of the company's strategic objectives. The Deputy General Counsel will play a crucial role in shaping the legal function and fostering a collaborative and proactive legal culture.

- Legal Strategy and Leadership:
- Assist the General Counsel in developing and implementing the company's overall legal strategy, aligning it with business goals.
- Provide strategic legal advice to senior management and the Board of Directors on a wide range of legal and business matters.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
- Foster a strong ethical culture and ensure legal compliance across all business units.
- Corporate and Commercial Matters:
- Provide expert legal advice on a variety of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate governance.
- Be the company’s lead Commercial lawyer, negotiating and handling major transactions and developing efficient policies and processes for deals of all shapes and sizes;
- Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies to manage compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Team Management and Development:
- Manage and mentor a team of in-house Heads of Legal, fostering their professional development.
- Promote a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Manage relationships with external legal counsel and other advisors.
- Contribute to the recruitment and selection of legal talent.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Manage the legal budget effectively.
- Develop and deliver legal training to employees.
- Undertake other tasks and projects as directed by the General Counsel.
These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview:
- Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales (or equivalent jurisdiction).
- Significant post-qualification experience (8+ years) gained in a senior in-house legal role.
- Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice to senior management.
- Deep understanding of corporate law, commercial law, compliance regulations
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
- Experience working in a global organisation is desirable.
