Job title: Director of Digital & Technology (PSS1)

Salary: £112,750-£123,000 per annum

Location: Leicester (Hybrid)

Allen Lane is delighted to be supporting De Montfort University in their search for a new Director of Digital & Technology on a permanent basis. A newly created role at one of the UK’s most vibrant, sustainable and diverse universities. This is a brilliant career opportunity to have impact as the university’s leading technology expert, developing and directing a comprehensive technology modernisation programme to support the objectives of the Digital Transformation strategy.


As Director and Lead of the current IT and Media Services team, the postholder will lead and inspire DMU’s technology team and oversee all strategic efforts to modernise and optimise the IT function and technological resources of the university.


This is a complex stakeholder environment in which you’ll need to collaborate closely and openly with distinct and dispersed customer groups to establish user requirements and an appetite and environment for innovation.


This high-profile role presents an opportunity to review and reset our present capability. Interoperability, Cloud, data capability and operational excellence will be key themes as you set about transformation.


You will be leading on defining and maintaining a clear strategy for DMU which will enable the delivery of the Digital Transformation Strategy and evidence this through a suite of technical roadmaps that are aligned with business objectives.

In order to be effective in post, applicants must give evidence and examples of proven experience of each of the following essential selection criteria:

  • Demonstrable success in providing technology leadership to enable delivery to meet diverse, complex, evolving, secure and highly available end user needs
  • Experience in transitioning organisations away from established and embedded legacy technologies to user orientated, lifecycle-based cloud enabled technologies and systems and Product based approaches
  • Demonstrable credentials in defining and evolving the enabling enterprise architecture disciplines with the associated service design governance and rigour required to be effective
  • Clear evidence of technical credentials and leadership across the digital arena, such as: experience in SAP, cloud computer (SaaS, PasS), infrastructure services, end user computing, DevOps, data, lifecycle management, continuous improvement, cyber security, solution engineering and integration
  • Experience of SAP modernisation within the cloud
  • Experience and expertise in hybrid cloud environments
