We are seeking a
Director of Photonics for our
Albuquerque, NM location.
Key Responsibilities
- Distill overall business direction into strategic objectives for the photonics team, including long-term technical scope, resource planning, partnership and IP strategy
- Identify, engage, and leverage 3rd parties to achieve strategic and tactical photonics objectives. This will include vendors, suppliers, strategic partnerships, major subcontracts, and collaborative research agreements. With Strategic Sourcing, be accountable for these collaborations and their success in meeting Quantinuum objectives
- Work with a diverse team, including photonics designers, fabrication experts, atomic physicists, and engineers to develop, fabricate, and validate unprecedented integrated photonic technology.
- Manage/mentor of managers and key individual contributors within the team
- Lead all stages of development of photonic solutions for trapped ion quantum computing, including new concept creation, design, layout, fabrication, packaging, test, and delivery
- Own and oversee programmatic execution of the team’s plans, including:
- Tracking and reporting of progress against the plan (with Program Management)
- Resource allocation and prioritization to meet the milestones
- Risk/opportunity identification and management
- Accountability for all department results and interdependencies with internal and partner organizations
You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree minimum
- Minimum 12+ years' experience (PhD/Masters inclusive) in one or more of the following areas: Photonic integrated circuit design, fabrication, or testing, optical metamaterials, photonic packaging
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)
We Value
- PhD in Physics or Engineering preferred
- Experience in nanophotonic design using photonic simulation tools such as: FDTD, FEM, or optical mode solver (Lumerical/COMSOL/RCWA/RSoft or similar tools)
- Knowledge of on-chip photonics, wafer fabrication and fiber-to-chip coupling
- Prior experience building, leading, developing and motivating teams, both with direct reports and also indirect (matrix) reports on both permanent and temporary assignments
- Experience dealing with IP protection including joint IP agreements with external partners
- Experience interfacing with academic, industry, and government partners
- Experience working in an R&D environment
- Published results within their field of research
- Experience working within a cross-functional team environment
- Understanding of quantum computing and experience working in the field
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts
