Job Description
The role sits within the Group Finance Function and leads the tax, customs and tax transformation agenda including Tax Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance and Reporting, Legislative Change, Process Improvements and providing tax advice to the business. The role is part of the broader finance leadership group and leads the full tax agenda.
The role works closely with the broader CFO, technology and supply chain functions to support the business and optimise processes. The role also works with the wider business to ensure any initiatives are appropriately considered from a tax perspective and implemented successfully.
The Details
- Managing the Group’s global tax risk and minimizing its impact on both ASOS and its customers.
- Defining the Group’s global tax strategy, identifying direct and indirect tax inefficiencies, and implementing mitigating processes and controls.
- Reviewing and developing methods of working and reporting systems to maximize efficiency and reduce tax liabilities within the legislative framework, including responsibility for maintaining the tax control framework.
- Reacting promptly to legislative changes globally and ensuring ASOS builds the right systems and processes to remain compliant with legislation.
- Accountable for tax compliance in multiple jurisdictions, including filing returns and managing outsourcing contracts with advisors.
- Ensuring accurate end-to-end accounting and reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, data integrity, and preparing tax papers and forecasts for the CFO and Audit Committee.
- Liaising and managing relationships with tax authorities during routine audits and ad hoc enquiries, including preparing correspondence, participating in meetings, and maintaining proactive communication with stakeholders.
- Advising the business and external third parties (e.g., lawyers) on direct and indirect tax implications of projects and initiatives, and leading the implementation of tax-related projects.
- Leading the tax team (currently 14 colleagues) in terms of resource allocation, skill development, productivity measures, and ensuring market competitiveness.
- Actively contributing to Group-wide and Finance-wide strategic initiatives and objectives.
- Preparing and presenting management/board memos and training materials on an ad hoc basis.

Qualifications
About You
We are looking for a CTA / ACA qualified (or equivalent) with a background in global tax, regulatory and IFRS accounting experience, including specific experience of international Corporate Tax, Transfer Pricing, indirect Taxes and Customs in a listed entity.
You should have strong knowledge in international tax matters, particularly in relation to the EU and the US, experience in guiding tax-related projects and process improvement initiatives a practical and commercial approach to problem solving and a proactive and innovative approach to process improvement and simplification.
You will need people leadership and management to motivate, grow, select and augment the team to ensure the right mix of capabilities is available. You should also be highly analytical with strong organisational capability enabling you to meet deadlines, organise, prioritise and allocate resources.
You will also need first class communication skills and ability to resolve conflicting interests and obtain co-operation, the ability to work within and across teams, managing different priorities and expectations and be an ethical team player with good influencing skills and the ability to communicate complex tax matters to a non-tax audience.
