We have an exciting opportunity for a part time Dispensing Optician at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic optician experienced in working with children to be part of our busy and varied dispensing service. The Ophthalmology department prescribes spectacles for children of all ages and with a large variety of conditions, many of whom require specialist frames and lenses and will be required to provide a high standard of spectacle dispensing.
The successful candidate must have a caring, sensitive approach and enjoy working with children and their families.
- To take accurate facial measurements in order to make special frame adjustments for chidren with all types of ocular, facial and head shape abnormalities
- To order appropriate frames from measurements and deal with the companies manufacturing the frames
- To carry out alterations to frames: cutting and repinning sides, changing pads or bridge
- Good communication with children of all ages
- Communication with parents and other health professionals regarding child’s vision in relation to their spectacles
- Specialist training in fitting spectacles for children with all types of ocular, facial and head shape abnormalities
- To help the line manager with the management of the dispensing of spectacles
- To carry out the administration required to maintain the service
