Overview
London Borough of Harrow's Firs Residential Short Break Services has an opening for a Domestic Assistant.
The post holder will provide a high-quality service for children/young people with mild/moderate/severe learning disabilities, including those with physical disabilities, challenging behaviour or autism in order to support their families/carers.
You will be concerned with most aspects of housekeeping and domestic care and will indirectly contribute towards the standards of care of the children/young people. Although a member of the team, your work will be carried out without the team’s immediate involvement. It is expected that the successful post holder will act with initiative, skill, and responsibility to enhance the work of the care staff. You will also observe the department's rules in confidentiality.

About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of working as a Domestic Assistant.
- Awareness of and abide by all COSHH (Care of Substances Hazardous to Health 1994) regulations and a willingness to learn about other relevant law in relation to the role.
- Awareness of and abide by all Health & Safety Regulations in relation to the job role.
- Ability to undertake general cleaning duties, as set out in the centre's cleaning schedule e.g. keep stock control and organisation of the store cupboard.
- Openness to learning about different cultural needs and the needs of people with a learning disability and putting these into practise.
- An understanding of keeping professional boundaries with children.
- Ablility to respond quickly to hazardous situations.
- Ability to undertake lifting and handling of cleaning products and equipment as well as accessing of them in high or low positions are required.
- Ability to contribute towards the creation of a pleasant, warm, caring and ‘homely’ atmosphere that is focussed on a young person needs.
