What You Will Do
We are currently recruiting for a Continuous Improvement Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join us at a skilled level in a division that helps the business to achieve excellence by using best in class methodologies and efficient processes.
It’s an exciting time to join, as the Continuous Improvement Engineer will be responsible for two of our newly acquisitioned Instrument Processing locations based in Birmingham. Travel between the two will be on a regular basis with approximately 20% travel across the 22 IP sites across the UK to participate in and deliver training where required. Instrument Processing is the highly regulated sterilization of surgical tools.
They will lead the implementation of lean principles tools, systems, and behaviours throughout the organization. Work with stakeholders to identify and facilitate key projects that will improve safety, quality, cycle and lead time, and provide the optimum benefits to the business through waste reduction. Train teams in lean manufacturing tools and systems such as Kanban, Value Stream Mapping,5S, Visual Management and Kaizen. Manages project activities including communication, timeline, meeting facilitation, data gathering and processing, solution implementation and follow-up.
Responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner which stresses safety, incorporates countermeasures and is consistent with company policies, customer service and business objectives.
Duties
- Tackle problems using knowledge of CI techniques and business processes/practices
- Leads and/or participates in project teams coordinating the efforts of engineers, technicians and other professionals of various disciplines/departments to design, develop, and continuously improve product, equipment or processes.
- Work with internal team and external suppliers or customers to resolve issues. Performs evaluations and tests to understand and improve the process
- Lead continuous improvement projects.
- Support with project cost/benefit analysis to support business decisions including investment in annual CAPEX and ROI
- Exhibit a commitment to the shared values of Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement through ensuring defect-free workmanship, assisting others to meet the Customer’s needs, searching for efficient and effective ways to reduce waste, being active and accountable for Customer satisfaction, and satisfying the Customer’s needs with a sense of urgency.
- Deliver Lean curriculum per the Lean Course Catalog. Conduct in-person training ranging from orientation to problem solving to lean principles and tools.
- Facilitate Kaizen events; monitor and oversee Kaizen event follow up. Measure to ensure sustainment of results maintaining records of event metrics.
- Provide guidance to stakeholders on Lean tools and principles including but not limited to standardized work, value stream mapping, and problem solving. Maintains current knowledge and serves as a technical expert.
- Contribute in a team effort by performing according to the guidelines outlined in the STERIS Code of Business Conduct, the GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher level management and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Continuous Improvement / Health related Science or 3 years of demonstrated, qualified lean experience
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of a variety of lean tools and methodologies such as: A3 Development and Management, Process Flow Mapping, Value Stream Mapping, 5S/Visual Factory, TPM, QCO-SMED, Standard Work, Process Problem Solving, Built In Quality, Just In Time, Kaizen/Continuous Improvement, Hoshin Kanri – SDP X Matrix, and Lean ROI.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to integrate safety, ergonomics and 5S requirements within CI/ lean practices.
- Ability to manage priorities for limited multi-site responsibility.
- Experience in working within a matrix environment reporting to Lean organization and taking local direction from General Manager
Skills
Travel between both Birmingham sites on a weekly basis. Up to 20% travel to other IP sites as needed by stakeholders. Must be flexible
