The role
As an
Engineering Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join the Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) Business Unit at Devonport and help deliver critical infrastructure upgrades for future MOD ship and submarine operations. Contribute to the design, build, and commissioning of advanced docking and berthing facilities for Astute Class submarine maintenance, supporting a key national defence programme.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for managing the technical aspects of a project, from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.
- Scope and manage the technical delivery of projects across all lifecycle stages.
- Support the Design Management Group in delivering complex, safety-critical design solutions to quality, time, and budget.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external resources based on evolving project needs.
- Ensure all design outputs meet requirements and align with budget and schedule constraints.
- Apply a structured, proportionate design process tailored to both conventional and nuclear facility environments.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working.
Essential Experience Of The Engineering Manager
- Demonstrated technical expertise with strong communication and interpersonal skills to support effective stakeholder engagement.
- Extensive experience across engineering, construction, or infrastructure environments.
- In-depth knowledge of the design lifecycle, paired with a methodical, problem-solving mindset.
- Solid understanding of designing and substantiating safety-critical solutions, ideally within a regulated industry.
Qualifications For The Engineering Manager
- Hold a STEM degree or demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
- Be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or actively working towards registration with membership in a relevant professional institution.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
