Planner

The Opportunity
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Planner within Wardell Armstrong's Energy & Climate Change team in our Truro office (but would also consider Bristol), to focus predominantly on local planning opportunities in energy, minerals and waste. This position is aimed at someone with 3-5 years' experience, ideally with a planning consultancy or Local Authority background.
As a Planner, your duties will include:
- Preparing planning applications and assisting in project management to ensure the project team is up-to-date and working to schedule
- Preparing Planning Statements, Design and Access Statements, EIA Screening Requests and completing application forms
- Supporting senior colleagues to progress projects from inception to completion
- Client and Case Officer liaison
- Appraising new development opportunities, including site appraisals for energy and minerals projects
- Undertaking site visits
- Research on live applications, development plans, supplementary guidance and other critical information for client reports
- Supporting with proposal writing and work winning
- There will also be the opportunity to work with the wider Energy & Climate Change team to prepare technical reports such as Climate Change Impact Assessments, Energy Statements and Glint Assessments
We are looking for someone who has a can-do attitude backed up by a succinct and positive writing style, excellent interpersonal skills and the confidence to proactively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, a team player, committed to excellence and have strong organisational skills to successfully manage a diverse team and workload.
As the successful candidate you will:
- Hold a good Town Planning or other relevant degree
- Be actively working towards Chartership in Town Planning or the environmental sector
- Have demonstrable experience in the English planning system
- Have a good technical knowledge of different application types, legislation and planning policy
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Have strong report writing and communication skills
