The Environmental Sustainability team is a small but dynamic unit within the Finance and Corporate Services Directorate in the FCA Operations division. The directorate includes Strategic Finance, Finance Strategy and Reporting, Pensions, Workplace Solutions, Procurement and the Portfolio Management Unit. The team collaborates with key departments and divisions to manage operational environmental risks and drive sustainability across the FCA and its wholly owned independent subsidiary, the Payments System Regulator (PSR).
To support the UK Government’s commitment to achieving net zero by 2050, the FCA has set and independently validated its own greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.
The team is expanding its capabilities and is seeking a skilled Environmental Sustainability Senior Associate to advance its remit and contribute to meaningful sustainability outcomes.
What will you be doing?
- Assist the Environment Manager in advancing the FCA’s corporate environmental strategy and net-zero transition priorities
- Maintain an action inventory, model emissions reduction scenarios, refine procurement strategies and contribute to the Net-Zero Transition Plan
- Oversee ISO 14001 certification, manage environmental policies and track progress on Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) accreditation
- Guide sustainable procurement, assess supplier sustainability reporting and enhance waste, water and energy management
- Collaborate across FCA departments, lead employee engagement efforts and liaise with industry partners, suppliers and regulators
- Produce sustainability reports, monitor greenhouse gas emissions, support climate disclosure reporting and deliver environmental training

- Work with internal teams and external partners, including suppliers, regulators and public bodies
- Identify and implement new approaches to enhance sustainability efforts
- Develop skills and contribute to key projects across the organisation
Which skills are required?

Minimum
- Experience in environmental regulations compliance, impact assessment, policy development and risk management, including audits and due diligence
- Prior experience in project management, data evaluation, reporting and effective communication through presentations, writing and stakeholder engagement
- Experience in digital skills and proficiency with software tools
Essential
- Relevant qualifications in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in developing and implementing environmental sustainability strategies
- Expertise in Environmental Management Systems, including external ISO 14001 audits and internal assessments
- Ability to produce annual environmental reports and conduct greenhouse gas emissions inventories (Scopes 1, 2 and 3)
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks, including Greening Government Commitments, TCFD, GRI and SDG
- Experience with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) application and accreditation
- Knowledge of resource management, including facilities management, procurement processes and carbon credit usage
- Track record of stakeholder engagement, including organising sustainability events and collaborating across teams
