About Hemiko
Hemiko is a fast-growing innovative business which is looking to invest in and deliver over £1bn of heat network projects in the coming years. We fund, design, build, operates and maintain low carbon district energy networks and building energy systems. This work is for communities, towns, and cities. We work with local authorities, developers, house builders, and property owners.
We are looking to lead on town and city scale decarbonisation. We recognise that the decarbonisation of heating and the built environment is one of the least known and “solution clear” areas - this is where we are focused and where we will be deploying our investment and our resource.
We are an innovative, design and proactive intelligence led company, looking to attract people who think around a problem and past an issue. We want to be at the front end of commercial and technical innovation and are looking for team members to come on that journey.
Some Of Our Current Projects Include
- The design, installation, operating, and funding of a district heating system to serve 3,500 homes in Clapham as part of a major regeneration project.
- The design, installation, and operation of a new city centre wide low carbon district heating system for the City of Cardiff.
- The design, installation, and operation of a ground source heat pump system to provide heating and cooling to a new development of 300 homes a gym and office building in South London.
- The design and installation of a heat network in a rural community in Cambridgeshire to replace oil boilers in 300 homes with centralised low carbon heat generation.
- Developing detailed long-term decarbonisation plans for existing large scale district heating networks to allow them to transition from gas fired CHP led generation to low carbon generation.
Hemiko is absolutely committed to an honest and collaborative approach to all our work, always looking for better ways to do things and avoid the business curses of unnecessary complexity and silos.
We are a young, friendly business in the very rapidly growing low carbon energy sector, which provides significant opportunities for career flexibility and development. We focus on delivering bespoke solutions with positive outcomes for the communities we serve.
The Role
Your lead responsibility will be to provide estimating, pricing, supply chain management, and reporting activities during the bidding, pre-construction, and commercialisation phases of a variety of projects.
These projects may relate to the Design & Build of new District Energy Networks (DENs), the Operation & Maintenance of existing DENs, or large-scale city-wide DEN infrastructure.
The majority of the estimation work shall relate to Mechanical and Electrical engineering associated with the projects mentioned above. However there will be multi-disciplinary elements required to price Civils and Structural works relating to trenching for underground pipework and new builds to house Energy Centres.
You will be required to liaise with the wider project team and clients to gain an understanding of project requirements and this may require written, verbal, and in-person communication with Project Managers, Designers, and experienced members of the wider team.
You will own your projects from start to completion, including the handing-over of projects from estimating to project delivery.
The role requires the successful candidate to have the flexibility to transition between the pricing of different types of projects, undertaking estimating for multiple jobs the same time, whilst meeting deadlines set internally or by clients.
From time-to-time you may be required to attend site visits around the country to meet with clients at the pre-bid stage to gain a better understanding of project requirements. You may also be required to join meetings with clients (in-person or virtually) to field questions about the pricing approach and respond to queries relating to our bids.
You will be guided and supported as you develop in your role by the Head of Estimating and the wider pre-construction team.
The compact nature of the business and our rapid growth means that the candidate has significant opportunity to develop their career in a friendly environment working with and alongside a broadly experienced team of commercial professionals of varying levels.
Candidate
Prior experience (3 - 4 years) of project pricing, estimation, or quantity surveying is a pre-requisite. Previous experience specifically within the Mechanical & Electrical field is required.
The candidate should be comfortable with reading, understanding, and querying written information such as scopes of work & specification documents. This is essential to ensure that pricing is completed correctly.
The candidate will have a proven track-record of successfully pricing and winning work while developing budgets that are realistic, achievable, and deliverable.
The candidate will be fully proficient with IT systems used in the workplace (Office, SharePoint, Teams) and have highly developed Microsoft Excel skills.
It would be advantageous for the candidate to have a well-developed understanding of the construction & energy industries, how construction projects are planned & delivered, and how health & safety practices are considered at all stages of a project.
The ideal candidate would have experience of working on district heating systems, however, this is not a necessity.
The candidate will need to be comfortable communicating with team members, clients, clients’ engineers, contractors, and specialist suppliers. They will be personable and a good communicator in writing, over the phone, in person, and within online meetings (MS Teams).
The estimation and pre-construction teams are based throughout the country. The candidate should therefore be comfortable with independent working without daily in-person contact with the wider team.
We are looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated, and willing to learn. The company is still relatively small but with very fast growth, so we are looking for flexibility and enthusiasm to help us grow. The candidate will be able to work as part of a team and take ownership and fulfil their tasks on time and to a high standard.
We will want you to join our journey toward a more environmentally and technically responsible and effective way of delivering energy systems, moving away from conventional processes into a more innovative and free-thinking environment.
