We’re looking for an Adviser to support the Events Team with all aspects of the ABI Events calendar and key flagships as well as running smaller internal events end to end.
This is an ideal opportunity for anyone with a passion for events, who wishes to build and develop their skills within a diverse and influential industry. We welcome people who are new to insurance (most of us were when we joined!) – as well as those with experience.
What’s the job?
- Contribute to and take responsibility for planning and organising of ABI events with the wider team to ensure success and that all target objectives and timelines are met.
- Support on events technology and creative outputs including design (working with an external agency), events engagement tool, marketing (website, marketing emails etc. - as part of allocated events and support other team members when required).
- Working with the Assistant Director and Events Manager, support with partnership and sponsorship activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of ABI events by seeking a greater role in projects within administrative capacity and other areas of competence.
- Ensure the CRM is administered and used to its full functionality from an events and member engagement point of view.
- Input into the events business planning process by meeting with all ABI teams and collating events wishes for the following year, compiling a draft calendar and producing draft budgets.
- Be responsible for the management for each allocated event, working with colleagues in other departments who will undertake appropriate administrative tasks.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including staff at all levels in member firms.
- Lead and manage ad hoc project work and take ownership of keeping projects on schedule.
- Ensure all reports/agendas/notes are provided to the Assistant Director and/or Events Manager within the allocated schedule.
- Research, draft and extract reports and provide suggestions and recommendations.
- Seek training on projects outside of knowledge base.
- Assist with information required for event budgets with oversight from the Events Manager and/or Assistant Director, Head of Member Relations, Partnerships and Events.
- Manage external relationships with suppliers (such as catering, AV, printers, design agency, external venues) on a regular basis (including contracts, queries, invoices).
- Actively participate in member networking opportunities (e.g., at ABI events), proactively highlighting ABI value during these interactions and expressing confidence in our ability to deliver on behalf of the industry.
What skills do you need?
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience delivering in-person, virtual (incl. webinars) and hybrid events
- Resilience and the ability to work well under pressure, to be available outside normal working hours when required
- Proactive approach including the ability to plan and work independently to achieve agreed objectives
- Willingness to be proactive, flexible and adapt to changing work demands
- The ability to autonomously plan and prioritise multiple work streams effectively and meet deadlines under pressure, whilst showing flexibility and initiative to adapt to changing work demands.
- Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills, with a proactive approach to managing relationships with members and external stakeholders
- Demonstrates good commercial awareness
- High degree of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels
- Good team working and interpersonal skills and a commitment to working proactively with colleagues and stakeholders to get results
- Prior experience working in corporate events and the ability to demonstrate ownership and responsibility from conception to delivery and after care with proven results
- Demonstrable prior experience working with CRM systems.
Desirable:
- A good understanding of the role and remit of the ABI and its member companies
- Develop an understanding of the ABI house style and overall branding requirements in relation to events and supporting collateral
- Prior experience in events sponsorship sales
