About the Team:

Global safety charity, Lloyd’s Register Foundation is about to move back into its historic home, the Lloyd’s Register building, after an extensive refurbishment project. A Grade 2 listed building at 71 Fenchurch Street, the building is occupied by both the Foundation and the commercial business it owns, Lloyd’s Register, a maritime classification and consultancy society, as well as the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Heritage Centre which houses a public-facing library and an archive holding material concerning over 260 years of marine and engineering science and history. The Centre is focused on increasing the understanding and importance of maritime safety. Designed by architect Thomas Edward Collcutt, the building is an impressive classical stone palazzo in a 16th century Italian style and is an inspiring place to work.

The building presents an opportunity for the Foundation to become a home for maritime thought leadership, discussion and debate. Whether learning from the past through our archive, discussing safety challenges that exist today, or debating what the future holds, we will invite maritime stakeholders to convene in our building, hear from experts and join in conversations. In addition, we hope to bring in inspiring speakers from around the world to give talks about interesting topics aligned with our mission to ‘engineer a safer world’. In time, we may also seek to fund a community programme of events to inspire young people to consider maritime as a future career.
