Financial Accountant

This is an exceptional opportunity for a high-performing recently qualified accountant (ACA) or equivalent with audit practice experience - ideally from a Top 10 firm - looking to make their first move into industry. The role offers a clear progression path into the Group Financial Controller position as well as many other opportunities that may present themselves across the Group overtime

As a Financial Accountant for a multi-currency listed UK company, you will play a key role in the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful consolidated financial information. You will work closely with highly professional financial reporting teams across our global subsidiaries to support half-year and year-end reporting processes under IFRS, drive continuous improvement in reporting quality, and ensure compliance with financial control requirements.

This is a high-profile role that blends technical excellence with commercial acumen and interpersonal effectiveness. It offers significant visibility across the Group and is suited to candidates with strong intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and a drive to develop into a future finance leader.

You will be applying your knowledge of IFRS accounting standards and working knowledge and experience to consolidate and report financial information for the Group. You will be ensuring and enforcing compliance for accurate reporting from the sites and provide guidance and support on IFRS accounting matters.

Reporting to the Financial Controller for the Group, you will take on responsibility for preparing the consolidated primary statements (including balance sheet, consolidated income statement and consolidated cash flows). You will be supporting to ensure that data submissions from the sites are submitted accurately each month & for budget periods as well as ensuring that data also reconciles back to legal entity & ERP ledgers with a particular focus on year end and interim accounting reporting compliance and enforcing accountability of this data from the local site managers.

Twice a year (and one of the key deliverables for this role) is that you will be responsible (along with the rest of the reporting team) for delivering the interim end and year end reporting results for the Group. This will involve directly liaising with external auditors and other departments both externally and internally.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Support the Financial Controller in the successful preparation and delivery of the Group's half-year and full-year IFRS consolidated financial statements
• Assist in the project management of the production of the year end Annual Reporting including successful sign off by external auditors.
• Work with local finance teams across 50+ global entities to collect submitted results and ensure compliance with financial control checklists and balance sheet reconciliations
• Prepare consolidation adjustments, elimination entries, and Group journals
• Review intercompany balances, FX translation, and consolidation workings
• Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts for UK entities (5 in total)
• Coordinate and manage the relationship with external auditors during audit cycles, providing analysis, reconciliations, and supporting documentation as required
• Maintain and develop consolidation tools/models in Excel as well as support with new cloud based consolidation tool system implementations
• Support ad hoc technical accounting queries and accounting policy compliance across the Group
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives across the reporting process
• Contribute to the development of internal financial reporting controls and procedures
• Assist with the production of the audit & risk committee papers for the board (4 times a year)
• Production of other Ad hoc internal and external financial reporting, analysis and modelling as required
• Contributing to the periodic update to the Essentra Accounting Manual to ensure fit for purpose and compliant.
• Contribution to the drafting and implementation of new accounting policies
• Coaching of junior members of the wider finance teams globally

Required Skills and Experience:

• ACA qualified (ICAEW) with post-qualified experience;
• Experience auditing or preparing IFRS consolidated financial statements and dealing with multi-entity groups
• Strong technical grasp of IFRS standards and their practical application
• High-level Excel skills and apply to design excel sheets to prepare reported results with efficient design and clarity
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders - from junior site accountants to senior leadership
• Proactive mindset with strong work ethic, intellectual rigour, and the resilience to meet demanding deadlines
• Exceptional attention to detail and tenacity for accuracy - someone who takes ownership and pride in delivering high-quality output
• Able to manage competing priorities and work autonomously when needed
• FTSE Listed plc experience
• Experience supporting Group year-end or half-year close in an audit or industry role
• UK statutory accounts preparation experience or audit of UK stat. accounts.
• Familiarity with consolidation software or reporting tools
• Previous exposure to multi-currency consolidations and intercompany reconciliations
• Academic excellence: excellent A levels and a strong degree

This is a hybrid role with expectation of working in our Kidlington office 2/3 days per week.
