Full Stack Developer - Python

The role…

The role of Full Stack Developer is important to us.

In this role you will join the talented software development team that works on Velocity, our flagship customer web portal with over 300,000 active users.

Velocity is built on a Python (Django) back-end and React front-end, hosted on AWS with a Postgres database. Although this is a full stack position, it is your backend experience with Python and Django that will be most prominent.

As part of the Velocity team you’ll have the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges while contributing to a highly impactful platform. You’ll work on a variety of interesting projects, enhancing features like fuel card management, real-time telematics fleet tracking, and reporting.

The role is based from our head office environment in Crewe, Cheshire and is eligible for inclusion in our hybrid working policy (minimum 3 days per week in the office).

Your responsibilities will include…

• Develop and enhance Velocity’s features, from large-scale projects to small system improvements.
• Support and troubleshoot the application to maintain seamless user experiences.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, team meetings, and code reviews.
• Deliver high-quality code using best practices and appropriate documentation.
• Estimate project tasks and meet deadlines effectively.

What do we expect of you?

Essential Skills

2+ years of experience with:

• Python (Django)
• React
• HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Database technologies (Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL)
• Version control (Git)

Personal Attributes

• Open to new technologies and eager to learn.
• Strong problem-solver who crafts elegant technical solutions.
• Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.

Desirable Knowledge

• Other back-end technologies (e.g., Node.js).
• Front-end performance optimization, tooling, and architecture (e.g., Tailwind, Storybook, micro-services).
• AWS services
• Database design, query optimization.
• DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, Linux Sysadmin, and application security.
• Monitoring tools e.g. Datadog.
